WNBA Semi-Finals Game 2 Results: Phoenix Mercury and Las Vegas Aces Stage Comebacks Against Minnesota Lynx and Indiana Fever to Level the Series

Tuesday, September 23, was a day of comebacks in the WNBA. In the first 2025 WNBA semi-finals series between the Minnesota Lynx and the Phoenix Mercury, the latter erased a 20-point deficit to stun the table-toppers 89-83 in an overtime thriller. In game 2 between the Las Vegas Aces and the Indiana Fever, the hosts made a stunning comeback in the series by taking their rivals down in a blowout fashion.

Las Vegas Aces 90-68 Indiana Fever

A’ja Wilson came up with 25 points, nine rebounds, and one assist to lead the Las Vegas Aces to a stunning 90-68 victory over the Indiana Fever in Game 2 of the semi-finals. She had five steals and two blocks, and was shooting 10/18 (55.6%), and 4/4 from the free-throw line. With her Tuesday-night’s performance, Wilson became the first center in the history of the league to have a playoff game with 25 points and five steals. Not only this, but the four-time MVP has also the fifth highest field goals made in the league’s history.

NaLyssa Smith contributed 18 points to the Aces scoreboard while Jackie Young added 13. Jewell Loyd and Dana Evans both poured in 10 points each as the Aces leveled the series 1-1 against the lower-seeded Fever. They maintained a thorough lead over their rivals and limited them below 20 points across all quarters. Las Vegas shot 53.8% (36-65 FGs) from the field, including 41.7% (5-12 3pt FGs) from beyond the arc. Their counterparts came up with 41% (25-61FGs) overall and 35% (7-20 3pt FGs) from behind the arc.

The visitors were led by Odyssey Sims’ 18 points and seven assists while Lexie Hull dropped 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Kelsey Mitchell scored 13 points, while Aliyah Boston poured in 10 points and game-high 13 rebounds.

Phoenix Mercury 89-83 Minnesota Lynx

The Phoenix Mercury stormed back from a 20-point deficit to stun the Minnesota Lynx 89-83 in an overtime thriller at Trade Center. With the win, the Mercury have leveled the WNBA semifinal series 1-1. Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas played an instrumental role for the winning side with their 24 point and 19-point performances. Thomas dished out a franchise playoff record 13 assists, and had her 27th double-double in playoffs. She now ties with Candace Parker and Tamika Catchings for the most double-doubles in WNBA Playoff history.

Sami Whitcomb dropped 13 points off the bench as the Mercury moved past the victory line. This marked the third-largest comeback in WNBA postseason history and equaled the biggest comeback in a road playoff game.

The Lynx had early control of the game where they had a 21-19 lead in the first quarter and 48-32 lead at halftime. Their comeback looked almost impossible after Napheesa Collier hit a three putting her side ahead 59-39 during the third quarter. However, Satou Sabally came up with a deep three-pointer that helped Mercury outscore their counterparts 57-35 across the second half.

Phoenix was trailing 79-76 in the final seconds of the regulation game. It was then Whitcomb dropped a three-pointer with 4.3 seconds left to force overtime. In the final frame, the Mercury outscored the Lynx 10-4 to clinch a victory.

Napheesa Collier led Mercury with 24 points, six rebounds, and one assist while Kayla McBride dropped 21 points. Courtney Williams poured in 20 points for Minnesota whereas Alanna Smith had 13 points.

Mercury hit 33-of-79 from the field and 13-of-32 from the three-point range. On the other hand, the Lynx had 34-of-75 from the field and 7-of-28 from beyond the arc.
