The Las Vegas Aces defeated the Washington Mystics 75-72 in their home-opener for the 2025 WNBA season on Friday, May 23. Jewell Loyd came up with a corner three-pointer with just 1.9 seconds on the clock, pushing the Aces’ tally to 2-1.

Apart from them, the Minnesota Lynx continued their winning streak, and defeated the Connecticut Suns 76-70. In other games of the night, the Los Angeles Lakers suffered an 82-73 defeat, while the Seattle Storm recorded a 77-70 win over the Phoenix Mercury, handing them their first defeat of the season.

Minnesota Lynx 76-70 Connecticut Sun

The Connecticut Sun were handed their third straight defeat as the Minnesota Lynx took them down 76-70. Napheesa Collier led the reigning finalists with 33 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists. With her dominating performance, Collier became the first player this season to score 100 points. Apart from her, Jessica Shephard dropped 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Natisha Hiedeman came up with 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

On the Sun’s side, Marina Mabrey dropped 22 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, whereas Haley Peters tallied 12 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Saniya Rivers scored 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Olivia Nelson-Ododa came up with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists for the Suns.

Golden State Valkyries 82-73 Los Angeles Sparks

Golden State Valkyries were led by Carla Leite’s 19 points, two rebounds, and three assists as they extended their winning streak and defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 82-73 at Crypto.com Arena. Janelle Salaun came up with 18 points, eight rebounds, and one assist while Kayla Thorton scored 14 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist.

For the Sparks, Dearica Hamby poured in 25 points, six rebounds, and two assists while Kelsey Plum dropped 16 points, one rebound, and three assists. Odyssey Sims came up with 13 points, two rebounds, and two assists for the Sparks, who recorded their third loss of the season.

Seattle Storm 77-70 Phoenix Mercury

The Seattle Storm defeated the Phoenix Mercury 77-70 to record their second seasonal and first home-game win. Ezi Magbegor and Skylar Diggs dropped 24 points each to lead the Storm to avenge their previous defeat to their rivals. The last time both teams met, on Saturday, May 17, the Storm were handed a blowout 81-59 loss. In Friday-night’s game, Gabby Williams contributed 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists for the side.

On the other hand, Alyssa Thomas led Mercury with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. Satou Sabally tallied 15 points, nine rebounds, and two assists, while Monique Akoa Makani scored 14 points, two rebounds, and two assists, as Mercury recorded their second win of the season.

Las Vegas Aces 75-72 Washington Mystics

Jewell Loyd came up with a corner three-pointer with just 1.9 seconds left on the clock, putting the Las Vegas Aces ahead of the Washington Mystics in the final scoresheet. The Aces, led by Jackie Young’s 25 points, five rebounds, and three assists, took their rivals down 75-72, marking their second victory of the season. Chelsea Gray added 17 points, four rebounds, and two assists while A’ja Wilson finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists. As Wilson recorded three blocks, she moved past Elizabeth Williams, and is now 10th in WNBA history with a total of 447 career blocked shots.

On the other hand, the Mystics had Sonia Citron hitting four three pointers and finishing with 19 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Kiki Iriafen, the No. 4 pick in WNBA 2025 Draft, scored 17 points, 13 rebounds, and two assists. She has now become the first rookie in the history of the franchise to record a double-double in three consecutive games. Apart from her, Sug Sutton finished with 10 points, two rebounds, and an assist.
