Monday night hosted two WNBA games, and both had playoff contention on the line. The Chicago Sky’s home arena also hosted Candace Parker’s jersey retirement ceremony.

WNBA Results: Chicago Sky 74-79 Las Vegas Aces

The Las Vegas Aces have secured their spot in the WNBA playoffs following their 11th consecutive victory, achieved on Monday. The Aces have been an unstoppable force and their performance in Chicago was dominant.

They posted scores of 20-14 and 24-18 in the first and second quarters respectively during the course of the game. The advantage had grown substantial as they headed into the second half of the matchup. The Chicago Sky reduced the gap significantly by achieving a 24-16 margin in the third quarter of play.

The home team was narrowing the difference on the scoreboard, but the Aces managed to hold firm in the last 10 minutes. They won by 79-74 with Jackie Young scoring 22 points. A’ja Wilson also contributed with 18 points. For the Chicago Sky, Ariel Atkins hit a game high 30 points.

The Wintrust Arena on Monday also hosted the jersey retirement ceremony of Candace Parker. The Chicago Sky legend on the feat said, “My heart will always belong to the state of Illinois, the city of Naperville and the city of Chicago. It’s not just where I’m from, it’s the core of who I am.”

WNBA Results: New York Liberty 81-79 Connecticut Sun

The New York Liberty managed to evade yet another significant threat in their ongoing chase for the playoffs’ qualification. Following a streak of five consecutive defeats, the Liberty appeared unsteady during Monday’s game, too. The home team established the pace through their first quarter showing that resulted in a 27-15 advantage.

However, the Connecticut Sun made a comeback in the second quarter and took the lead with 21-10. The Sun built on their lead in the third quarter as well. However, the New York Liberty mounted a strong effort in the final 10 minutes and secured an 81-79 victory.

Jonquel Jones achieved a double-double consisting of 18 points along with 11 rebounds in her performance. Breanna Stewart also contributed to the win with 19 points. For the Connecticut Sun, Aneesah Morrow scored a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
