The WNBA season is off to a banger, and there has been plenty of drama already. The interest in WNBA betting has never been so high, so let us throw our hat in the ring, too! Bettors have a lot to look forward to. In this piece, you can get an idea bout the best bets for the May 18, 2025, action.
It is the double-header day in the W!
First, the Connecticut Sun will host the Washington Mystics in an evening encounter at Mohegan Sun Arena. This will be the season opener for the Sun, while the Mystics must be relishing their season opener 94-90 win against the favored Atlanta Dream.
On the other hand, the Los Angeles Sparks will host the Minnesota Lynx in the second game. The Sparks opened their season with an emphatic 82-67 win over the Golden State Valkyries. Meanwhile, the Lynx dusted off the Dallas Wings 99-84.
Here are your WNBA best picks for 05/18/2025 on BetMGM.
Napheesa Collier put together a masterclass against the Wings in the season opener. She took full advantage of the match-up advantages. The stellar forward dominated the paint, cashed in from mid-range, and punished from the three-point line.
She was unstoppable in early post-up situations and also made a ton of quick shots on drives. Collier shot an impressive 12/21 and made all her free throws for 34 points. Last season, she scored 25 and 30 in the two games against Sparks. Thus, placing an “Over” bet here can be fruitful.
The Mystics played their heart out against the Dream. They actively scrapped for loose balls and made key shots one after another. During the second half, the whole team went in clutch mode.
Thus, they’d enter with a ton of confidence against a squad that is not even a shadow of itself. Their only two reliable options are Marina Mabrey and Tina Charles. Mabrey is a streak shooter, whereas Charles is declining with each season.
It is difficult to see where they will generate high-level offense. On the other hand, their defense also looks weaker than the Mystics. Thus, I’d roll the dice on the visitors here.
Bet #3: Sparks vs Lynx: Total U 162.5 (-110 at BetMGM)
The season opener for Lynx went around the 180 mark, whereas the Sparks’ one was much more low-scoring with fewer than 150. Thus, we are in a middling territory for this game’s total.
The Lynx are leaps and bounds better offensively than the Valkyries, whereas the Sparks arguably have better defense than the Lynx’s previous opponent, the Wings. I see LA forcing a rather low-scoring game here, and the total hovering around the 150 mark.
Bookmakers have a hard time when it comes to the WNBA total. They see more fluctuations than the NBA scene. There can be some high-scorers early on, but the wear-and-tear reduces the score as the scene goes deep.
Meanwhile, some heavy favorites are usually the safe bets, as the domination of many teams has been long-standing in the league. Overall, the WNBA market sees twists and turns, but there are elite teams that are surefire safe bets on most occasions.
