Winnipeg Jets Set Franchise Record with Ninth Straight Win Against St. Louis Blues

Winnipeg edges St. Louis 4-3 in a dramatic shootout, extending their record-breaking winning streak to nine games.

The Winnipeg Jets continue their dominant run, securing their ninth consecutive victory with a hard-fought 4-3 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night. The win, which took place at the Enterprise Center, set a new franchise record for the longest winning streak in team history, surpassing their previous mark of eight.

Winnipeg wasted no time getting on the board, as Nikolaj Ehlers fired home a one-timer just five minutes into the game, thanks to a setup from Cole Perfetti and Vlad Namestnikov, who recently signed a contract extension. However, the lead didn’t last long. St. Louis forward Robert Thomas responded quickly, netting his first goal of the night to level the score.

The Jets regained control in the second period when Gabe Vilardi found the back of the net, giving his team a 2-1 advantage. But Thomas struck again, this time just 16 seconds into the third period, bringing the game back to a deadlock. The Blues then seemed poised to snatch the win when Pavel Buchnevich scored a power-play goal late in the final frame, putting St. Louis ahead 3-2.

With time winding down, Winnipeg pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker, and the gamble paid off. Vilardi, stepping up in the clutch, buried his second goal of the night to force overtime. Despite several chances from both teams, neither could break through in the extra frame, marking the first time this season that Winnipeg failed to score or concede in overtime.

The game ultimately came down to a shootout, where Kyle Connor, who had been a healthy scratch during the USA’s silver medal run at the 4 Nations Face-Off, stepped up and delivered the winning move. His slick deke sent the puck past Blues goaltender Joel Hofer, sealing the dramatic win for the Jets.

Winnipeg netminder Eric Comrie put up a solid performance, stopping 21 of 24 shots, while Hofer made 24 saves on 28 attempts. With this historic victory under their belt, the Jets will now turn their focus to Monday night’s home matchup against the San Jose Sharks. Puck drop is set for 6:30 PM Central Time.
