Winnipeg Jets Make NHL History with 15th Win in First 16 Games of the Season

Anamika Shrivastava

Jets secure historic 6-3 victory over Rangers, setting NHL record for season start with 15 wins in 16 games.

The Winnipeg Jets etched their name in NHL history with a 6-3 win over the New York Rangers on Tuesday, becoming the first team to secure 15 victories in its initial 16 games of a season.

The Jets’ beginning has been truly exceptional. They became the fourth team since 1967-68 to top the NHL in both goals for and against per game during their initial 15 games.

“You play at MSG, you’ve got to put on a show, It feels amazing. Obviously, it’s been a great start for us, but tonight’s over. Enjoy the win. And then back to work.” : said center Mark Scheifele, who scored two goals in the win.

They have netted five or more goals in fifty percent of their matches. Their 73 goals this season rank as the third-highest by a team in its first 16 matches over the last 30 years.

By winning against the Rangers, the Jets improved to 7-0-0 away from home. The 36 goals they’ve netted away from Winnipeg are the highest in NHL history for the nine teams that have achieved their first seven road victories.

Kyle Connor netted two goals, and Gabriel Vilardi along with Vladislav Namestnikov contributed with additional goals. Connor Hellebuyck recorded 33 saves for the Jets, with numerous key stops against the Rangers to sustain his team’s momentum.

Hellebuyck’s record now stands at 12-1-0 this season, and he bested the Rangers’ Igor Shesterkin (five goals on 32 shots) in a duel between frontrunners for the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s best goaltender.

Connor mentioned that he believed the Jets’ forecheck was aided by the Rangers applying pressure offensively. The Jets remain on the road, facing the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday and the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Saturday.

Connor stated that the team recognizes the history they are creating but is not letting it serve as a distraction.

I’ve always loved writing and storytelling, and hockey gives me a perfect stage for endless stories to tell. Whether it’s breaking down a game, analyzing a big trade, or capturing the emotions on the ice, I bring the NHL to life through words. So what’s the best part you ask? Watching the action unfold and turning it into something fans can connect with. To my readers: Hockey is more than just a game—it’s the highs, the heartbreaks, and the moments that make us jump off our seats. So, keep cheering, keep debating, and never stop loving the madness of the sport!
