Will Kylian Mbappe Play Tonight vs. Atletico Madrid? Updates for Mbappe’s Availability for the Madrid Derby

Moumita Dutta

Kylian Mbappe is in doubt for Real Madrid Derby after sustaining a knock on his ankle in their last match.

Atletico Madrid will face Real Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 second leg. They are leading after a 2-1 win in a closely fought first leg at the Bernabeu. Brahim Diaz scored a late goal in that game to give Los Blancos the advantage.

However, Atleti have a strong home record in their favour which gives them hope for a comeback. Diego Simeone’s side have been absolutely dominant at home in Europe. They’ve avoided defeat in knockout games for nearly three decades.

However, in their most recent game, they lost 2-2 to Getafe which certainly raises concerns ahead of this high-stakes clash. Real Madrid may have had a shaky weekend win over Rayo Vallecano, but still remain the favorites for the clash and progression.

Real also have past in their favour against Atletico in the Champions League and will look to maintain that dominance with a star-studded squad. However, they may be without their ace Kylian Mbappe in this all-important clash.

Will Kylian Mbappe Play Against Atletico Madrid Tonight?

As per EFE, Kylian Mbappe remains doubtful for Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League with an ankle knock. He sustained the injury during their win against Rayo Vallecano this weekend. On Tuesday, the French forward trained separately. He was reportedly seen working in the gym before he joined his teammates later.

Considering Mbappe’s impact, if he is fully fit, he should play the match. Hence, the French player’s availability will depend on how he feels before the match begins. Boss Ancelotti may make a final decision on matchday. Despite recent inconsistency, Mbappe has been key for Los Blancos as he scored 17 league goals and seven Champions League goals this season.
