Will Dak Prescott Play Tonight?

Devavrat Kulkarni

The Dallas Cowboys begin their 2025-26 NFL season with a week 1 matchup against the reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. The difficulty of the task at hand cannot be overstated for the traveling Cowboys, but a lot will depend on the team’s offense.

The defense has suffered a huge loss with top pass rusher Micah Parsons being traded to the Green Bay Packers just a few days back. Now, the onus will be on the Cowboys trio of Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and newly acquired wideout George Pickens to carry the team.

Dak Prescott’s Availability for Season Opener against the Eagles

The 2024 season ended early for Dak Prescott following a hamstring injury in the week 9 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Initially, it was thought that he would miss only a few games, but that was not the case.

The Cowboys’ starting quarterback ended up having to undergo surgery and missed the remaining games of the season. Consequently, the Cowboys finished with a 7-10 record and didn’t make the playoffs.

However, the 32-year-old veteran signal caller has now completely recovered and will be ready to play in the season opener tonight against the Eagles.

Although Prescott did not play in any of the Cowboys’ three preseason games, he has been a regular at training camp. Having already played in the league for nearly a decade, he has the confidence to be ready for the season’s first game.

Dak Prescott Past Stats

Prescott, a nine-year veteran, has been instrumental in leading Dallas to the postseason on five occasions. While he has been criticized for his play, in particular in the playoffs, statistically, he has managed to do a decent job.

Overall, Prescott has over 31,000 passing yards and a healthy 66.8% completion rate as well as 213 touchdowns vs 82 interceptions. And even though football is a team game, he is 76-46 as a starting quarterback.

Additionally, it is his record against arch-rivals, the Eagles, that is the most surprising. In his 13 starts against Philly, Prescott is 9-4 with 3,402 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions, as well as a 100.6 passer rating.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
