Why Caleb Martin didn’t get any tribute on his Miami homecoming?

Swati Bhatia

When former Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson received an emotional tribute from the team during his return to the Bay Area last week, many Miami Heat fans hoped for a similar gesture for Caleb Martin upon his return to Kaseya Center on Monday.

However, their expectations were dashed when it was announced that the Heat would not be honoring their former forward with a video tribute.

Martin, who had signed a two-way contract with the Miami Heat in 2021, played three seasons with the Eastern Conference side before making a move to the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason. During his tenure with the Heat, Caleb averaged 10 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

Why Miami Heat did not give a video tribute to Caleb Martin?

Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang reported that the Miami Heat decided not to give a video tribute to Caleb due to the team’s policy of reserving tributes for players who have either won an NBA championship or made an All-Star appearance while with the organization.

Caleb’s return to the Miami Heat turned out to be a disappointing one as the 76ers suffered a 106-89 defeat to share the NBA’s worst record.

The 29-year-old added 12 points as the visitors blew off a 19-point lead to suffer their fourth straight loss of the season. Miami’s Jimmy Butler was the star as he delivered a season-high 30 points on his return from an ankle injury.
