The Western Conference Finals has come to an end after a dominant show by the OKC Thunder. It remained a perfect matchup between the two young and athletic teams. Even the Shai Gilgeous-Alexander vs. Anthony Edwards face off was interesting making it clear who could go on to become the face of the league.

Anthony Edwards struggled to take his side towards glory. He remained inconsistent throughout the Western Conference Finals’ series. However, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander emerged into the spotlight with his MVP caliber performances.

That performance earned the 26-year-old the Western Conference Finals MVP award, his first Magic Johnson Trophy. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander managed to average 31.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 8.2 assists in the now five game series. He deservedly got hold of his first Magic Johnson Trophy.

To top things off, SGA will also be the first player to win the Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Award and at the same time play in the NBA Finals in the same season. This is happening for the first time since Steph Curry did it in the dominant 2015-16 season.

Thunder Claim Western Crown in Style

With a 4-1 series win over the Timberwolves, OKC clinched the Oscar Robertson Trophy and booked their first NBA Finals appearance in over a decade. The coveted trophy is given to the Western Conference winners in honor of NBA legend Oscar Robertson.

The Oscar Robertson Trophy is awarded twice each year, once to the Western Conference champions and once to the NCAA’s top player. OKC Thunder thoroughly dominated the Timberwolves finishing off the crucial playoffs series in just game 5.

Their Wednesday night performance resulted in another blowout win. Thunder hit the ground running at the home court taking a huge lead by the half time. They maintained their momentum going into the second half as well that resulted in a 124-94 win.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a game high 34 points. He won the Western Conference Finals MVP for his consistent performances. Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams also significantly contributed to the score sheet hitting 22 and 19 points respectively. While Anthony Edwards once again failed to lead his team. He scored 19 points while Julius Randle managed 24 points.
