The night turned from bad to worse for Sorensen as the Vancouver Whitecaps head coach was accidently doused in Cruz Azul’s Gatorade shower.
The 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup final ended in heartbreak for Vancouver Whitecaps FC as the Canadian side suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat to Mexican giants Cruz Azul on Sunday night. But for Whitecaps manager Jesper Sorensen, the night took an even more surreal turn as he was accidentally drenched in Cruz Azul’s Gatorade shower during their title celebrations.
Cruz Azul wasted no time asserting their authority in the match as Ignacio Rivero opened the scoring in the 8th minute, followed by a thunderous strike from Lorenzo Faravelli in the 28th. Angel Sepulveda netted twice in the match as he finished the tournament as the Golden Boot winner with nine goals. In between, Mateusz Bogusz also scored from outside the box just before halftime.
Despite multiple second-half changes from Sorensen, the Canadian side couldn’t mount any sort of response. They ended the match with 0 shots as the defeat brought their impressive 15-match unbeaten streak to a painful halt.
As the final whistle blew and Cruz Azul began celebrating their seventh Champions Cup title, Sorensen walked over to offer a respectful handshake to opposing manager Vicente Sanchez. However, in an unfortunate twist of timing, Cruz Azul players charged toward Sanchez, showering their coach in victory celebrations and accidentally soaked Sorensen in the process.
Losing 5-0 in the final and then being caught in the "Gatorade shower" afterward is insane.

It was a dismal showing from the Vancouver Whitecaps, who had been impressive throughout the tournament until collapsing in the final. Their road to the title clash had been nothing short of remarkable, highlighted by a commanding 5-1 aggregate victory over Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in the semifinals. But on the biggest stage, the Canadian side failed to rise to the occasion.
