Kevin Durant is one of the greatest players and scorers to ever play the game of basketball. Durant has 16 seasons under his belt averaging 25 points or more and only LeBron James has more with 20 seasons. Right now, as he is aging, he may not be the same player he once was. However, he is still averaging 26.6 points, on 52.7 percent shooting from the field, and 43.0 percent from beyond the arc. KD is one of the most efficient scorers this league has ever seen and despite the Phoenix Suns not having a lot of success this season, he has still balled out.
If there was ever any doubt of how good of a player Durant is, he is the only player in NBA history to average a 55-40-90 season, meaning shooting 55 percent or better from the field, at least 40 percent from deep, and 90 percent from the free throw line. While there is not a single flaw in his offensive game, as he can post up, shoot the three ball, has a Jordan like Mid-Range game, finish inside, handle the ball, and pass, the only thing that everybody questions KD about is his leadership abilities. Can Durant ever lead his own team in the NBA, and so far that has not been the case.

When he left OKC to join the Golden State Warriors, Stephen A. Smith called it the “weakest move,” he’s ever seen a NBA superstar at Durant’s level do. Despite all the heat that Durant got for joining the Dubs, he won two championships with the team. However, ever since he left the Warriors, Durant has not been able to find any kind of success in the playoffs, and has yet to reach the conference finals since his departure from the Bay.
He joined the Nets at first and formed one of the scariest big-three in the history of the NBA with KD, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. The same year, Durant faced the Bucks in the second round of the playoffs and was just a big toe away from a trip to the conference finals, but ultimately came up short. Since then, Durant is now playing for the Phoenix Suns alongside All-Star guard Devin Booker, however, KD’s tenure with the Suns has been unsuccessful, and now that the Suns are on the brink of elimination, there are various sources stating that the 15x All-Star could be headed elsewhere after the 2024-25 season ends.
So today we’ll see where can Durant play next if he decided to leave Phoenix in the offseason. Let’s get right into it.
The Orlando Magic are currently led by their two stars in Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. They have achieved a lot of success with the current group that they have and even pushed the Cleveland Cavaliers to brink of exit last season in the first round of the playoffs, by taking them to 7 games. The Magic have a great roster, a great coach in Jamahl Mosley, and are maybe just a pure scorer or two away from being a serious threat in the East. Adding a veteran like Durant to the roster, who can give you buckets anytime you need them, could possibly help the Magic make a much deeper run in the East.
The Rockets are currently the second seed in the West and are playing a great brand of basketball as of late. With players such as Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, Jalen Green, Dillion Brooks, and various other pieces, the Rockets can make some noise in the playoffs. However there are questions about how they will flair against more experienced playoff teams. We still believe that the Rockets need a reliable and a consistent scorer, and there’s nobody better than KD to fill that void, provided that they don’t have to give too much away to sign Durant.
The Thunder are already a great team and are leading the West and the East with the best record in the NBA. They are the favorites to make it out of the West and into the finals, but, there’s still questions about who can be trusted as the second option for the Thunder after Shai Gilgeous Alexander. While Jalen Williams looks like the guy that will be the second option for the Thunder, his consistency is still something that’s been doubted at times. However, adding Durant will easily solve that part of the equation and the Thunder can count on him to produce, each and every night. SGA and the others can handle the ball, and Durant could just be a pure scorer as he doesn’t need to ball in his hands to be productive.
Durant’s return to the Thunder and helping them win a championship is also something that can add further to his legacy, as he will have finally delivered a championship, that the city desperately wanted, ever since the Thunder drafted him.
The Timberwolves already have a star in Anthony Edwards, and various effective pieces around like Naz Reid, Jaden McDaniels, and others. However, ever since Karl Anthony Towns was traded away from the team, the Wolves have been missing KAT’s scoring presence. Towns averaged 21.8 points last season, playing for the Wolves, and one of the biggest reasons why they went all the way into the Western Conference Finals. Even though the Timberwolves added Julius Randle at the 4 spot, Durant would be a significant upgrade over Randle in terms of providing the scoring spark that they may need at times.
Anthony Edwards’ G.O.A.T is Kevin Durant, as he stated it himself, so why not play alongside your favorite player of all time? We think this would be one of the best fits for both Durant and the Timberwolves.
Durant has stated before that he doesn’t like to be the leader of the team, and he just wants to play basketball as great as he can. The Knicks would be the perfect fit in that regard as the team already has a leader in Jalen Brunson, and alongside players such as Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges, Durant would mostly be needed for his scoring and a little bit of defense, which KD has proven that he can provide. Even though the Knicks are the 3rd seed in the East currently, they have not beaten the Boston Celtics even once this season, and we highly doubt the Knicks’ chances of making it to the NBA Finals with their current group.
