Golden State Warriors Push Phoenix Suns to Brink of Elimination From NBA Playoffs Race With Blowout Win

The Suns are now just one loss away from officially getting eliminated from the playoffs.

The Golden State Warriors secured a blowout 133-95 win over the Phoenix Suns to push them to the brink of officially getting eliminated from the NBA playoffs contention. With the defeat, the Suns have set a new franchise record for most consecutive double-digit losses with seven defeats.

They are now required to win out and the Dallas Mavericks are now required to lose their remaining three games, something which is highly unlikely. On the other hand, the Sacramento Kings earned their second consecutive play-in qualification as the Suns fell down.

In their next game, the Suns, looming in the 11th spot in the standings with a 35-44 tally, will host the Oklahoma City Thunder. A loss against them will officially eliminate the Suns from the playoffs race. On the other hand, the Warriors, who recorded a loss against the Rockets in the previous game to end a five-game winning streak, need to win their remaining three games to secure a top-six seed.

Golden State Warriors Make the Most of Kevin Durant’s Fourth Consecutive Game Absence

The Phoenix Suns were without their superstar Kevin Durant, who missed his fourth straight game with a left ankle sprain. Following the loss against the Warriors, the Suns fell to 2-15 without Durant this season. While Devin Booker once again emerged as the main source of offense for his side with 21 points, four assists and three rebounds, his efforts fell short against the Steve Kerr’s side.

Stephen Curry finished with 25 points and was a plus-31 in 26 minutes of the game against the Suns in a lop-sided game. During the entire duration, the Warriors led their counterparts by as many as 41 points and never got below them by more than one point. Brandin Podizemski came up with 22 points, five rebounds and three assists while Traye Jackson-David finished with 13 points.

A total of four players on the Dubs side, including Pat Spencer, Jevin Knox II, Jimmy Butler, and Jonathan Kuminga finished with 10 points apiece. The Dubs are now 22-5 with their newest acquisition in the lineup.

The Warriors were red hot right from the beginning and went on a 9-0 run to turn their one-point deficit into an eight-point lead. They ended the quarter with 37-24 with Stephen Curry’s 13 points and three rebounds. Booker, who completed his 3,500 career assists in the first quarter came up with 11 points, and four assists.

The Warriors started the second quarter on a strong note and had Podziemski scoring 10 points for the Warriors. However, the Suns cut the deficit back to single digits, but the Dubs were quick enough to extend the gap. They finished the first half with 69-43, after a 25-9 run. Curry scored 19 points, while Podziemski came up with 17 points.

The Dubs continued their dominance after the break and led the Suns 95-61 at the end of the third quarter. It turned into an eventual 133-95 win for the Warriors and another embarrassing loss for the Suns.
