As the peak summer is approaching us, that also means the NFL season is getting closer and closer, not to forget the release date of Madden 26 for all the football fans too. But this also means that training camps are starting soon. Teams are gearing up for training camps to sharper their roster and develop players for the tiring 17-game season. This will also be a critical time for coaches to evaluate talent, refine schemes, and help the team build chemistry, while the players will battle for starting roles and roster spots for the season. The competition will be fierce, not between teams, but rather within teams as veterans and rookies will battle for the limited positions. There are only 53 spots on a team, and it will not be easy for any player to get a spot.

For context, the New Orleans Saints, have a heated quarterback competition that’s coming, with rookie Tyler Shough, drafted in 2025, against QBs Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener, will try to prove that they deserve the starting QB job, after Derek Carr’s retirement. The Browns similarly face a stiff QB competition themselves with a race between Shedeur Sanders, Joe Flacco, Deshawn Watson (when he returns), Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel. As teams prepare for the September, 2025 kickoff, teams will use the training camp to shape the depth charts and set the tone for the upcoming season.

NFL Training Camp 2025 Start Date

The NFL Training Camp is set to start in mid of July. While the exact dates aren’t known yet, operations.nfl.com states July 16 ,2025, as a potential reference date for the end of signing period for unrestricted free agents with a “UFA Tender,” but only if it’s later than July 21, 2025, or if it coincides with first scheduled day of the first NFL training camp.

This implies that July 16, 2025 could be the start day for some training camps, but it’s not confirmed as the universal start date for all NFL training camps. So you can expect the training camp to start right in between July.

There will be five NFL training camps in Southern California this summer.

How much do NFL players make during training camp?

According to PFSN.com, the veteran players will make $3,500 a week during the 2025 season’s training camp, and it will be the same for the 2026 season as well. Meanwhile the first-year NFL players will make $2,000 a week in 2025 and 2026 seasons. The figures have increased from last season in 2024, as the veteran players made $3,200 a week, and first-year players made $1,850.
