What Draft Picks Do the Detroit Lions Have in 2025? All Detroit Lions 2025 NFL Draft Picks per Round

Devavrat Kulkarni

It’s been two consecutive years that the Detroit Lions should have made it to the Super Bowl only to fall short in the NFC Championship game and the Divisional round in 2023 and 2024 respectively. The Lions have been at the top of their game for the past couple of seasons going 27-7 and ruling the NFC North in the process.

Unfortunately, they haven’t delivered when it matters the most, thus a Super Bowl appearance still continues to elude them. The NFC North is quite a competitive division which means the Lions can’t afford to rest on their laurels.

The Packers are young but they are quite a competitor. The Vikings gave Detroit a real run for their money last season and very nearly snatched the number-one seed from them. As for the Bears, they have put together two strong offseasons and should be much better this year. The draft will provide the Lions the opportunity to plug some gaps in their roster and add depth in areas of concern.

Detroit Lions 2025 NFL Draft Picks

The Detroit Lions will have 7 picks from as many rounds in the upcoming draft as of now. Unless there are any trades that take place between the Lions and other teams, Detroit will remain with 7 selections. The Lions have a minimum of one draft pick in each round barring round 5. They have 2 picks in the seventh round. The Lions possess 4 own picks, one special compensatory pick, and 2 via trades.

Positional Needs for the Detroit Lions ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft

Basically, the three areas the Lions should target in the draft are the edge, guard, and perhaps wide receiver. For the Lions, Aidan Hutchinson remains the biggest threat as a pass-rusher. However, they need more help, especially as their star missed most of the season due to injury in 2024. This year is one of the better years as far as the edge position is concerned so Detroit could still find a good player even though they will be picking late in the order.

As for the guard position, losing Kevin Zeitler is a big blow and that has left a void that needs to be filled quickly. Currently, they have Christian Mahogany and Graham Glasgow, but the latter’s form is a bit of a question.

That brings us to the receiver room where Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams are the clear top two receivers. Both had 1,000-plus receiving yards last season and should continue to play well together. The issue is the lack of quality behind them. While tight end Sam LaPorta is more than an able pass catcher, more help in the receiver room can’t hurt.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
