Following an 11-win season and a postseason appearance in 2023, the 2024 season was a complete setback as the Cleveland Browns finished tied for last place with a 3-14 record. The Browns’ troubles at the quarterback position continued to hinder their progress and the Deshaun Watson trade went from bad to worse. Watson started only 7 games last season and went 1-6 in them before he missed the remainder of the year with an Achilles surgery in late October. In January, Watson re-ruptured his right Achilles tendon and could be done for the entire 2025 campaign.

The running game also didn’t stand out and the only highlight on the offensive side of the ball for Cleveland was their wide receiver signing of Jerry Jeudy who had 1,229 receiving yards on the year. As for the defense, the Browns were one of the bottom-most teams in terms of points allowed per game with 25.6. Although they fared better against the pass, they allowed 129.7 rushing yards per game ranking in the bottom half of the table.

However, star defensive end Myles Garrett had yet another memorable year finishing second overall with 14 sacks. At one point in the offseason, it looked like Garrett may have been out of Cleveland as he requested a trade. The Browns, however, were never on board with the idea and offered him a new contract worth $160 million over 4 years to keep him from pursuing a trade further.

Despite the success of tying Garrett to a longer deal, the Browns still need to revamp their offense starting with quarterback which is a pressing need.

What Are the Browns’ Draft Picks in 2025?

Cleveland holds the number 2 overall draft pick in this year’s draft. That will give them the chance at landing one of the top players in the draft, whether it is quarterback, receiver, corner, or edge.

The Browns have a selection in every round except round 5, however, 6 of their total 10 picks are all in rounds 4 or beyond. Cleveland will be the busiest in round 6 where they have as many as 4 picks.

Positional Needs for the Browns

As mentioned previously, Cleveland desperately needs a quality signal caller under center with current starter Kenny Pickett a backup at best. Assuming the Titans with the number one overall pick select quarterback Cam Ward, the Browns will still have the chance at taking Shedeur Sanders with their first-round pick if they believe he is the right fit.

Other areas of concern on offense that need to be addressed are the O-line and running back rooms. As this is one of the better running back classes of late, the Browns should look to add depth to the position. Adding another receiver to the mix, especially if they can land a WR1 will be beneficial as well.

Over on defense, pairing Garrett with another edge rusher would instantly make them a bigger threat while getting after the quarterback. Furthermore, adding another safety to the mix should also be a priority for the Browns this season.
