Jacksonville's huge win over the Chiefs takes them to 4-1 on the season!
The final game of week 5 was a clash between two AFC teams as the Kansas City Chiefs visited Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars on Monday Night Football (MNF). Kansas City came into the game with a 2-2 record, while the Jaguars held a 3-1 record.
It was a special day for Jacksonville’s quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who led the Jaguars to a massive win on the same day he was celebrating his 26th birthday. That said, here is a look at how the Jaguars defeated the Chiefs 31-28 to move up to 4-1 on the season.

The Jacksonville Jaguars took the field first after receiving the opening kickoff, but ended up going 3 and out on their first couple of drives. On the other hand, the Chiefs’ offense was able to move the ball downfield in their opening drive, but ended up punting after failing to convert on a 3rd and 2.
Kansas City, however, was first to put points on the board when its second drive ended with a 2-yard reception by tight end Travis Kelce in the end zone. Patrick Mahomes led a long drive featuring a couple of big gain plays, including a 33-yard reception to Tyquan Thornton that set up a first and goal.
The Jaguars’ offense suddenly seemed to find life in their ensuing drive and marched down the field after getting excellent position from the kickoff return. Trevor Lawrence came through with a few good throws, but the Jaguars weren’t able to score any points as the Chiefs punched the ball out of Lawrence’s hands on fourth and goal.
Pinned deep inside their own 5-yard line, Kareem Hunt found a hole for a long gain. The Chiefs finished a 97-yard drive with Mahomes rushing into the end zone from the 9-yard line on first and goal, giving them a 14-0 lead.
The Jaguars then came back following a long 8-minute drive that went 70 yards, ending with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Lawrence to Parker Washington to reduce the deficit to 14-7.
The drive featured a mix of rushing and passing plays, and a couple of scrambles by the quarterback to keep the drive alive. The momentum also carried over to the defense as the Jaguars were able to get the Chiefs off the field quickly just before the half, before any further damage.

The Jaguars were able to keep the same energy on both sides of the ball to start the third quarter. Jacksonville’s defense held Kansas City to its second consecutive three-and-out, while the offense marched down the field to tie the game at 14 apiece with Lawrence rushing into the end zone.
One of the plays of the game came on Kansas City’s next drive. Marching down the field, the Chiefs had a second-and-goal opportunity when Mahomes threw an interception to Devin Lloyd, who took it back 99 yards for a pick-six. That play gave the Jaguars their first lead of the game at 21-14.

Unfortunately, though, the Jags also turned the ball over deep within their territory with cornerback Trent McDuffie picking off Lawrence to set the Chiefs up near the Jaguars’ 20-yard line. That set up a Kareem Hunt TD to tie the game at 21-21 with about twelve and a half minutes left in the game.
Jacksonville would then take a 24-21 lead after a 52-yard field goal, but KC came back to score another touchdown through Kareem Hunt after putting together an 11-play, 84-yard drive to hand KC a 28-24 lead.
With under 2 minutes to go in the game, the Jaguars, refusing to bow out, came back to score a touchdown following exceptional play from Lawrence as he led Jacksonville on the game-winning drive. The final touchdown of the game came from Lawrence, who fell after the snap, but got up and rushed to the endzone as the Chiefs’ defense was unable to tackle him.
