Watford and Norwich City will face off at Vicarage Road on Tuesday in the opening round of the EFL Cup. Both sides will aim to bounce back from defeats in their Championship openers. Watford fell 1-0 to Charlton Athletic as they conceded in stoppage time. Meawhile Norwich suffered a 2-1 home loss to Millwall despite controlling much of the early match.

The Hornets ended last season 14th in the Championship with 57 points and exited the EFL Cup in the third round after a loss to Manchester City. Their best-ever run in the competition came in 2004-05 when they reached the semi-finals. Paulo Pezzolano’s squad has undergone changes this summer, with Bayern Munich’s Nestory Irankunda the standout signing. Meanwhile, Joao Ferreira and Mileta Rajovic have departed the club.
Norwich also finished last season on 57 points and finished just above Watford on goal difference. They exited the EFL Cup in the second round last year and last lifted the trophy in 1984-85. This summer saw a major rebuild under new manager Liam Manning, with 11 signings and the high-profile sales of Borja Sainz and Jonathan Rowe.
Despite their opening-day defeat to Millwall, Josh Sargent remains a key attacking threat. Norwich will look to extend their recent dominance over Watford, having won the last three encounters between the clubs.

Over 2.5 Goals @-141 as per BetMGM:
Cup ties at the initial stages of the EFL Cup tend to be more attacking and both managers will rotate their teams given the quick turnaround in matches. Norwich’s league opener was an open affairs and this cup tie is expected to be along the same lines. Also, the back lines of both the teams are still settling and it sets up well for three or more goals here.
Both Teams To Score @-167 as per BetMGM:
Norwich’s fluid front line usually creates chances, but they also concede regularly. Watford at Vicarage Road should carry more threat than they showed on opening weekend and they have scored atleast once in the four of their last five matches. As a result, both teams are likely to score here.
Match Drawn @+255 as per BetMGM:
Norwich have the edge in attacking quality in this match but home advantage should pull Watford up to parity. I expect a a tight, seesaw battle in 90 minutes which has high chances of ending in a drawn match.

Norwich’s forwards create enough chances to notch twice against a new-look Watford defense. Meanwhile, the Hornets will be charged up at home and can also threaten from set-pieces. Both teams are coming off disappointing starts to their Championship campaigns and will be eager to progress to the next round. As a result, a hard-fought match is expected between the two teams.
Score Prediction: Watford 2-2 Norwich City
