Washington Capitals Unveil 50th Anniversary Cherry Blossom Jersey

A special-edition jersey celebrates the Capitals’ milestone season and D.C.’s cherry blossoms, with proceeds supporting the MSE Foundation.

The Washington Capitals have unveiled a special 50th Anniversary Cherry Blossom jersey, celebrating both the team’s milestone season and the beauty of D.C.’s famous cherry blossoms. The new design, along with a collection of cherry blossom-themed merchandise, is now available at the Capitals Team Store at Capital One Arena and MedStar Capitals Iceplex.

This unique jersey pays tribute to the team’s history while embracing the spirit of the Cherry Blossom Festival. The design features the iconic Screaming Eagle, now clutching a cherry blossom branch, with a soft pink color scheme inspired by the delicate petals. Even the numbers on the jerseys incorporate cherry blossoms, with full-color stems and petals woven into the design. The shoulders are adorned with a special pink version of the Capitals’ 50th-anniversary patch, further tying the theme together.

Designed by D.C.-based artist Taylor Kampa Olson of TKOPaintings, these special-edition sweaters will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation. Capitals players will showcase the jerseys when they arrive at Capital One Arena for their March 18 matchup against the Detroit Red Wings.

The timing of this jersey release aligns perfectly with Washington’s beloved National Cherry Blossom Festival, which officially begins on March 20. The Capitals have embraced this connection before, debuting their first cherry blossom-themed jerseys last season in partnership with Olson.

In addition to the jerseys, fans can purchase cherry blossom-inspired apparel, headwear, accessories, and autographed replica jerseys at Capital One Arena and the team’s practice facility. The team has also planned several anniversary-related giveaways at upcoming home games on March 9, March 30, April 4, and April 13.

On the ice, the Capitals are having a season to remember. With a 39-14-8 record and 86 points in the standings, they sit comfortably atop the Metropolitan Division, holding a 12-point lead over the Carolina Hurricanes. They also lead the Eastern Conference by seven points over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Capitals are in a strong position to carry their momentum into the playoffs. A solid finish in the final two months could secure home-ice advantage, making their 50th-anniversary season even more special.
