Warriors Move on from Kuminga? 3-Team Deal Involving Kings and Pistons Reportedly in Works

The Golden State Warriors are closing in on a blockbuster three-team trade that would send Jonathan Kuminga out of the Bay Area. The 22-year-old has fallen short of 2021 NBA Draft expectations and is reportedly seeking a mutual exit from Golden State.

The three team deal could involve Warriors, Sacramento Kings, and Detroit Pistons. According to NBC Sports, the move hinges on sign-and-trade deals involving Kuminga and Malik Monk, along with Dennis Schroder’s movement.

Jonathan Kuminga will be sent to the Sacramento Kings while the Kings in order to absorb his salary will send Malik Monk to the Detroit Pistons. The Kings who are already on the course for getting Dennis Schroder from the Pistons will send Devin Carter and Dario Saric to the Golden State Warriors.

While the deal sounds complex on paper, all three franchises are actively evaluating its feasibility. Kuminga, who is desperate to restart his basketball career, will be open to a move to Sacramento given De’Aaron Fox’s exit early this year.

Golden State Adding Depth, Not Stars

The Warriors are entering this trade from a weakened position, having previously failed to find takers for Kuminga. As a restricted free agent, Kuminga’s market options are limited, forcing the Warriors to consider any remotely positive deal.

In this case, the Warriors will get two youngsters in Devin Carter and Dario Saric from the Sacramento Kings with a couple of second round picks as well. Devin Carter was picked #13 by the Kings during last year’s NBA Draft.

The point guard averaged 3.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists last season. The youngster also has a weaker injury record especially from his time at the Providence Friars.

Dario Saric had recently landed with the Kings after being traded from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Jonas Valančiūnas. The 31-year-old featured in 16 games last season averaging 3.5 points.
