His professional basketball journey began when he played for the Russian U-18 National Team at the age of 15 years old. He moved to the United States for his college and joined the Cincinnati Bearcats after receiving offers from multiple institutes.
In his freshman season with the Bearcats, the 23-year-old was out due to his knee injury. In the next season, he played 29 games and averaged 4.2 points and 3.5 rebounds. Lakhin’s performance kept growing and he averaged 9.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in 29 contests. Following the season, he entered the transfer portal and moved to the Clemson Tigers. In his final season of college, Lakhin averaged 11.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per contest.
