Vancouver Canucks Make NHL History with Unreal Last-Minute Comeback, Beat Stars in OT

Vancouver erases 3-goal deficit in final minute, then seals the win in overtime in a jaw-dropping finish vs. Dallas

On a wild Tuesday night in Dallas, the Vancouver Canucks pulled off a comeback that defied belief, logic, and NHL history. Down by three goals with less than a minute remaining, the Canucks turned a sure defeat into a jaw-dropping 6-5 overtime victory that left the crowd at American Airlines Center in total shock.

No team in NHL history had ever blown a three-goal lead in the final three minutes of regulation, let alone in the final minute. Yet, the Canucks did the unthinkable.

Going into the third period, Dallas held a comfortable 4-1 lead. Even when Vancouver clawed one back early in the period, the Stars responded swiftly. Mavrik Bourque and Mikael Granlund added two more, putting Dallas up 5-2 with just a few minutes left. It seemed like a routine win for the playoff-bound Stars. But then the game took a wild turn.

With just under a minute left, Aatu Raty scored to cut the deficit to two. The goal was more of a consolation… or so everyone thought. Moments later, Pius Suter found the back of the net to make it 5-4. Before the stunned Dallas bench could even react, Suter struck again, tying the game with mere seconds on the clock. Three goals in less than a minute. Unreal.

As if that wasn’t enough drama, Kiefer Sherwood played the hero in overtime, capping off one of the most dramatic nights in Canucks history. With under two minutes to go in OT and a shootout looming, Sherwood sealed the win and a moment the team and fans won’t forget any time soon.

The victory kept the Canucks’ playoff dreams on life support. Now sitting at 36-29-13, they remain six points out of the final wild-card spot in the West with just four games remaining. The math isn’t kind, but on a night like this, hope finds a way to linger.

Even if the Canucks fall short of the postseason, they’ll always have this moment a comeback for the ages, a record-breaking rally, and a reminder that in hockey, no lead is safe and no script is set in stone.

Meanwhile, the Stars, already locked into the playoffs, might want to shake this one off quickly. Because come postseason, there’s no margin for mental lapses like this.
