Ugo Humbert vs. Denis Shapovalov Head to Head, Prediction and Betting Odds for ATP Terra Wortmann Open 2025 Round-1

Sankalp Harikrishnan

Winner to face Fonseca or Cobolli in R16.

In this blockbuster clash at the 2025 Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, two former Top-15 players in Ugo Humbert and Denis Shapovalov battle it out for southpaw supremacy. While Humbert equalled his career-best performance at Wimbledon in 2024, ‘Shapo’ is a former semifinalist at the All England Club.

While Humbert and Shapovalov are extremely aesthetic players to watch on court, their styles are minutely distinct. While the Frenchman is all about the flat style of play with a lot of power, the Canadian enjoys altering the pace and spin. Nonetheless, both of them are masterful when it comes to changing direction and taking control of rallies with net approaches. It comes as no surprise that they have phenomenal career-high rankings of No. 13 and No. 10 respectively.

The month of February 2025 proved to be fruitful for Denis Shapovalov. The 26-year-old claimed the trophy in Dallas, before capping off the month by reaching the semifinal stage in Mexico. Unfortunately, his record of 2 wins in his last 6 tournaments means that the Canadian is searching for momentum. At the recently concluded Libema Open, Shapovalov won 67% service games and converted 40% break point opportunities.

A former Olympic quarterfinalist from Tokyo, Ugo Humbert may be relieved to see the grass (won Halle in 2021). The Metz-born sensation has endured a turbulent 2025 campaign, particularly since February. After playing some of his best tennis to win the Open-13 title without dropping a set, Humbert failed to reach a single quarterfinal in eight attempts. He finally broke the streak at the Libema Open last week – losing to Gabriel Diallo in the final four stage.

Ugo Humbert vs Denis Shapovalov Head to Head Record

Denis Shapovalov leads the head to head record against Ugo Humbert by 3-2. Tuesday’s Round of 32 tussle will be their fourth meeting in this closely contested rivalry.

After splitting their opening two match-ups, Humbert and Shapovalov have faced each other thrice at the Masters-1000 level. However, there has been no encounter between them at the Grand Slam level. While three out of five results have been decided in straight sets, one can expect fireworks as the two competitors face off in Halle after two years.

Ugo Humbert vs Denis Shapovalov ATP Halle Open 2025 Prediction

This is undoubtedly set to be a hard-hitting affair on Schauinslandreisen Court on Tuesday. Humbert is likely to attack the single-handed backhand of Shapovalov and make several net approaches. On the other hand, the Canadian is likely to adopt his classic serve plus one tactic – aided by his giant kick serve and sliders that are second to none.

Prediction: Denis Shapovalov in three sets.
