Ever wondered why Tyrese Haliburton dons number 9? Read below to know the reason.
Tyrese Haliburton, the latest Indiana Pacers’ sensation, was picked by the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft. It means that it has been five years since the 6’5” point guard has been in the NBA, but it took him the 2025 Playoffs to make his name in the truest sense. After moving to the Pacers in 2022, his career has been on a constant rise and is just four victories away from becoming a household name!
Haliburton played a crucial role in guiding Indiana to its first finals appearance in 25 years. In addition to displaying brilliant shooting prowess throughout the season, He ended up scripting playoffs history. He became the first player to score 30+ points, 15+ assists, 10+ rebounds, with zero turnover in a playoff game.
The two-time All-Star finished the 2024-25 regular season with an average of 18.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per contest. During the playoffs, he has been averaging 18.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game. It goes without saying that Haliburton has emerged as a beacon of leadership for the Pacers in the times of turbulence. Apart from his unorthodox shooting prowess, another thing that has, over the years, become a resemblance to Haliburton- his jersey number- Zero.

Tyrese Haliburton began his basketball journey for Oshkosh North High School, and moved to Iowa State for college. In his professional career, he was drafted as the 12th pick by the Sacramento Kings and had a memorable rookie season. He finished third in the Rookie of the Year voting and earned the NBA All-Rookie First Team selection.
Ever since the beginning of his career, the 25-year-old has been wearing number zero. He wore the number for the Kings also. The reason behind choosing the number is due to a former Pacers player C.J. Miles. The Oshkosh, Wisconsin-born once revealed that he was a part of Indiana for a few years when he was playing NBA 2K. The two-time All-NBA Third Team member, told IndyStar, “C.J. Miles, I used to kill with him on (NBA) 2K, so I think that’s part of the reason I wear (No.) 0.”
Notably, Miles was a part of the Pacers from 2014 to 2017, and he wore No. 0 for most of his career.
