Tyrese Haliburton sustained the injury in first quarter of 2025 NBA Finals Game 7.
The Indiana Pacers shared an update on the injury of their star guard Tyrese Haliburton. The Pacers confirmed on Monday that Haliburton suffered a right Achilles tendon tear during Game 7 in the NBA Finals. It is to be noted that in the first quarter of the final clash against the OKC Thunder, the two-time NBA All-Star crashed on the floor and was seen pounding the court in pain.
He was eventually taken to the locker room. Later, during the second quarter, the Pacers announced that he would not return to the game. Haliburton finished the game with nine points in seven minutes. It is to be noted that during Game 5 of the 2025 NBA Finals series, he suffered the right calf strain and played Game 6 through it.
Coming back to the Achilles tendon tear, the Pacers revealed that the 25-year-old underwent an MRI and would undergo surgery to repair the injury. The statement read, “An MRI taken on Monday confirmed that Haliburton tore his right Achilles tendon. Surgery is scheduled later today with Dr. Martin O’Malley at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.”

While the Indiana Pacers didn’t confirm a return date, ESPN insider Shams Charania shared a possible timeline. According to Charania, the right Achilles tendon tear would likely keep him out for the entire 2025-26 season. Speaking on NBA Today, Charania said, “I’m told that Tyrese Haliburton will be undergoing surgery to repair that right Achilles tendon tear very soon. The surgery is imminent and that injury timeline will likely put him out for the entire 2025-26 NBA season.”
Notably, Haliburton was his team’s offensive engine throughout its postseason run. He hit numerous game-winning shots in the closing seconds of playoff games. After finishing the regular season at an average of 17.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game, he averaged 17.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game during the postseason.
