Tyreek Hill’s Decline Of Fate: How Transfer From The Chiefs To Miami Led To The Cheetah’s Playoff Drought

Tyreek Hill is one of the fastest and the best wide receivers in the NFL right now. He currently plays for the Miami Dolphins and has been selected to the Pro Bowl 8 times. Hill has also been selected to the All-Pro 1st team, 5 times in his 9 year career. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 5th round of the 2016 NFL draft.

Hill played six seasons for the Chiefs before getting traded to the Dolphins. And that is where it all started. While Hill has been dominant in all sense and fashion, when it comes to his post-season success, it has been limited. Not while he was playing for the Chiefs though. In fact, Hill won a Super Bowl playing for the Chiefs and went to two Super Bowls.

It has not been the same since Hill arrived in Miami. Hill and the Dolphins were bounced out of the Wildcard round for two consecutive seasons in 2022 and 2023. What’s worse is, the Dolphins missed the playoffs entirely in 2024. While most critics may say the Dolphins as a whole is a bad team but what about Hill?

Whether it’s arrests made for traffic violation, multiple baby mommas, or him just quitting on his team by saying “I’m out,” it’s safe to say Hill’s been distracted. Apart from his regular season accomplishments, Hill has not found a way to achieve similar success that he had playing for the Chiefs. Was it a mistake to leave Kansas? It has, sure, looked like it.

Many fans are left wondering, how dominating the Chiefs would be if Hill was still in their line-up. However, it does not look the Chiefs have missed Hill, much. They have won two back-to-back championships and are headed back to the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs have a chance to three-peat this season and it was all done, without Hill. Meanwhile, Hill has been frustrated with the Dolphins for the lack of success. Hill missed the playoffs for the first time in his career in 2024. In a postgame interview,

Hill said “This is the first time I haven’t been in the playoffs so for me, I just gotta do what’s best for me and my family. Whether that’s here or where ever the case maybe. I’m gonna open that door for myself.” Hill continues “I’m out bro. It was great playing here (Miami) but…” A reporter then asks Hill if he is planning on leaving the team to which he replies “Yes.”

Let us look at how Hill’s decision to move from Kansas to Miami has led to a playoff drought for him.

Why did the Chiefs trade Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins?

Many fans were left confused after the Chiefs traded Hill away to the Dolphins. The connection between Mahomes to Hill was deadly so why was he traded away? The answer is simple. There are multiple reports stating that Tyreek Hill wanted more money than what was offered to him by the Chiefs. This led Hill to sign with the Miami Dolphins in 2022 for a staggering $120 million for four-years. Midway through the contract, Hill also signed a three-year $90 million extension with the Dolphins.

In Club Shay Shay podcast, when NFL legend, Shannon Sharpe, asked why Hill left a great situation in Kansas to play for the Dolphins, Hill’s reply was that he did not feel valued. He also talks about how he wanted to work something out with Kansas. How he wanted to play for the Chiefs but the guaranteed money offered by the Chiefs, was not what Hill and his agent wanted to hear. Then came Miami with their huge offer ,and it was just too good of a deal to turn it down.
