Tyler Shough NFL Draft Projection – Where Will Louisville QB Land?

Tyler Shough is one of the quarterbacks in this year’s NFL draft. He played the 2024 season with the Louisville Cardinals after having previously played for the Oregon Ducks and the Texas Tech Red Raiders during his collegiate career. At 25 years old, Shough will be one of the oldest players in the 2025 NFL draft.

The Arizona native had a long college career spanning a total of seven years after redshirting in his first couple of seasons. Shough, who was a four-star recruit out of high school, had offers from various top colleges such as Alabama, Georgia, California, North and South Carolina, and more. Following a verbal commitment to North Carolina, Shough eventually ended up attending Oregon from 2018 to 2020 where he was the backup to Justin Herbert in 2018 and 2019.

In 2020, Shough started 7 games for the Ducks, but his 4-3 record raised questions, especially after two consecutive losses against Oregon State and California in which the Ducks were favored to win. In 2021, Shough transferred to Texas Tech where he broke his collarbone after just 4 games. In 2022, he played in 7 games, starting 5 of them but missed a few games due to a shoulder injury, while his 2023 season was cut short to 4 games after suffering an ankle injury.

However, 2024 was his best season of collegiate football. After transferring to Louisville, he started all 12 games leading the Cardinals to an 8-4 record with 3,195 passing yards, 23 touchdowns to just 6 interceptions.

Tyler Shough Draft Profile

As per scouting reports, former Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough is currently seen to be a good backup with the potential to develop into a starting quality signal caller. Standing at a height of 6 ft 5 in, and weighing around 219 lb, Shough is a big quarterback whose stature is along the lines of Tom Brady.

Shough is known to have a great arm and good vision and plays his best from the pocket and when protected. However, under pressure, the story is not quite the same with his decision-making not the strongest at such times. Consistency and limiting injuries will be some of the biggest knocks on his game.

Tyler Shough’s Draft Projection

Tyler Shough is looking like a more and more interesting prospect in the days leading up to the draft. Earlier, following the NFL Combine, Shough was not included in conversations of first-round quarterbacks with that focus mainly being restricted to Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders with Jaxson Dart making a late entry.

However, as teams are getting their chance to evaluate various players, Shough seems to have caught the eye of multiple teams. If the latest reports are to be believed, one head coach has him rated higher than Ward and sees him as a first-round draft pick.

While teams might be coming on board with Shough’s ability at the NFL level, it is difficult to see him being selected on the first day. In all reality, Shough’s draft projection sees him going somewhere in rounds 2 or 3.
