“Trust Is Questionable Right Now” – Anthony Richardson’s Agent Not Happy With Colts Naming Daniel Jones As QB1!

The NFL is slowly but surely moving toward the start of the new regular season, and with that in mind, teams are making some key decisions for the season ahead. The Indianapolis Colts were one of those teams that had not decided on their starting quarterback until Tuesday.

Embroiled in a difficult situation between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson, head coach Shane Steichen had little to differentiate between the two, as neither player showed exceptional separation in the level of quality they brought to the team.

That said, the Colts decided to bench their former fourth overall pick and handed the keys of the offense to Jones by naming him the starter for the week 1 game against the Dolphins.

Richardson’s Agent Voices His Unhappiness

In the aftermath of the Colts’ decision to bench Richardson, the third-year player’s agent, Deiric Jackson, made his feelings known during an interview with ESPN. With Richardson’s future in Indy hanging in the balance, Jackson said that there are plenty of things to unpack.

“We have a lot to discuss,” Jackson told ESPN. “Trust is a big factor and that is, at best, questionable right now. Anthony came back and made the improvements in the areas he needed to improve. And by all accounts, he had a great camp.”

Richardson’s agent also believes that the Colts were more likely leaning toward starting Jones from the time they signed him earlier in the offseason. For his part, though, the former Florida Gators signal caller maintained composure and said all the right things during his interaction with the media, stating that there are no hard feelings and that he just has to keep improving as a person and a player.

Daniel Jones vs. Anthony Richardson

Daniel Jones vs. Anthony Richardson’s battle for the QB1 position on the Colts roster for the 2025 season played out in front of head coach Shane Steichen and his staff.

Going on what was reported from training camp, there was not much to separate the two players, but Steichen has made his decision based on what he has seen.

But what is intriguing is the fact that Richardson’s benching comes after just 15 starts in the league in his two seasons thus far. His rookie year was cut short after just 4 games due to a shoulder injury, and last season he played just 11 games.

Comparing both quarterbacks, Jones is the more experienced of the two. The 28-year-old is getting ready for his seventh season in the league, but that does not necessarily mean that he will be better.

Jones has had a torrid time so far. He is 24−44−1 from his 69 starts and has a 64.1% completion rate, while throwing 70 touchdowns and 47 interceptions. He has a passer rating of 84.3. On the other hand, Richardson is 8-7 in his 15 games but has a completion rate of just 50.6% with just 11 touchdowns and 13 picks.

Clearly Steichen and the Colts have seen something in Jones that has earned him the nod over Richardson, at least to start the season. How the battle continues as the regular season continues will certainly be worth keeping an eye on. The bigger question, though, is whether Indianapolis has given up on their former 4th overall pick, or will there be a twist in the tale?
