Tim Bontemps Predicts Stephen Curry Would Have ‘Best Season’ Over LeBron James and Kevin Durant

ESPN Insider Tim Bontemps predicted that Golden State Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry would have the best season and not LeBron James or Kevin Durant. Recently, ESPN released its annual ranking of the top 10 NBA players heading into the 2025-26 season. Apart from having new era names such as Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at the helm, the list also contained a few stalwarts including Stephen Curry, James, and Durant.

On a recent episode, the NBA Today crew Tim Bontemps, Brian Windhorst, and Bobby Marks got together to discuss who they believe will have the best season among these three icons. During the debate, Bontemps put across his opinion. He said that Curry would have the best season this year over the Lakers icon and the Houston Rockets’ newest addition.

Bontemps feels that Curry remains a force to be reckoned with at the age of 37 due to his elite shooting and off-ball movement. His skills continue to terrify the opposing defenses and set him apart from his peers. “I would say Steph Curry is,” said Bontemps.

“I think you can make an argument for any one of these guys still, but I think when you look at where Steph is in his career. He’s obviously when he’s been out on the court the last couple years. He’s still a guy that strikes fear in opposing defenses in a way that very few guys in the league can with his shooting, his ability to move off the ball.”

Curry is indeed one of the most elite three-point shooters in the league. In the previous season, he became the first player to reach 4,000 career three-pointers made. He tops the All-Time NBA list with 4058 three-pointers made. The four-time NBA Champion will enter his 17th season in the league. In the previous season, he averaged 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in the 2024-25 season.

Stephen Curry Shares Message on Final Years in NBA

The Golden State Warriors great is 37 years old, and is one of the players nearing the end of their careers. While he is currently not thinking about retirement, nobody can defeat time. Someday, his reign in the NBA will eventually come to an end. Curry, who has been a part of the Dubs for his entire career will have his contract ending in 2026-27. It will give him some time and a chance to decide if that would be the end or he would continue.

It seems that retirement is not on cards for the two-time NBA MVP and he is currently focused on his career while he still can. “Right now, I’m trying to get everything I can out of basketball for who knows how long,” Curry told Roy Wood Jr in an interview.

According to Fortune’s Sheryl Estrada, Curry doesn’t have a playbook for his life after basketball. However, his priorities would include spending time with family and deepening his family’s foundation and grassroot spots. Not only this, but he also wants to continue to make an impact on the game via mentorship.

Curry was ranked as the seventh-best player heading into the new season as per ESPN’s latest player rankings. LeBron James secured eighth spot and Kevin Durant made it to the ninth spot.
