“The NBA Does a Pretty Great Job…” – NBA Draft Accuracy vs NFL? Analyst Compares NBA Draft Success to NFL

The 2025 NBA Draft is being praised for its accuracy and efficiency, with an analyst hailing the league’s talent-spotting ability

The 2025 NBA draft has come to a conclusion after two rounds and 59 players were selected by the NBA teams. Normally, 30 picks are allotted in each round but this year, Philadelphia 76ers forfeited their second round pick due to a violation in free agency negotiation.

Nevertheless, the NBA Draft is being lauded by pundits and fans alike. This is after comparisons being made with other sports. Colin Cowherd, a well-known analyst on ‘The Herd with Colin Cowherd’ show, compared the NBA’s ability to identify elite talent to that of the NFL, praising the basketball league’s track record in drafting stars.

Colin Cowherd said, “The NBA does a pretty great job of naming their number 1 picks. There’s not a lot of huge misses and it’s usually an attitude. By and large, basketball does a pretty good job of identifying often at 14 years old – Kobe, LeBron, Luka at 14, 15 way before they come to the Draft.”

Cowherd’s comments have triggered mixed reactions on social media, with NBA and NFL fans debating the accuracy and complexity of each league’s draft process. Some believe that Colin might be right with his take, however, the majority believe that gaining draft efficiency is harder in the NFL because the game has multiple positions and team dependencies unlike basketball.

New Hope Emerges in Mavericks’ Camp

Colin Cowherd also praised No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, calling him an immediate impact player for the Mavericks. He suggested that the former Duke Blue Devils’ forward has a huge potential and will instantly become a 18-20 points per game player.

The Mavericks have a major win-now roster and with the inclusion of Cooper Flagg, the Texas side has shot up its chances of an NBA Title. Following Luka Doncic’s exit, the Mavericks now see Cooper Flagg as a potential cornerstone around whom they can rebuild their roster.

According to reputable bookies, the Dallas Mavericks have +2500 odds to win the 2026 NBA Championship. While the OKC Thunder remain the outright title favorites, oddsmakers believe that a well-synced Mavericks squad featuring Flagg could rapidly climb the championship odds.
