A 2025 NBA Draft analyst left panelists stunned after drawing a wild Cooper Flagg comparison
Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, has sparked comparisons from all corners with fans, media, and analysts alike weighing in. The 18-year-old holds immense potential rarely seen in recent years’ drafts which is why he is drawing comparisons with NBA legends.
Kendrick Perkins, a ESPN analyst known for bold takes is once again grabbing headlines, this time for an eyebrow-raising comment about Cooper Flagg. The former OKC Thunder player made a hilarious comparison of Cooper Flagg to LeBron James and Kevin Garnett.
During a live segment, the analyst remarked, “This is how I look at Cooper Flagg. If LeBron James and Kevin Garnett had a baby, you’d get Cooper Flagg.” This left a laughing riot among the other panelists of the show. Among them was Shams Charania as well who was barely holding it together.

Doubling down on his point, the analyst explained his logic by adding, “When you think about LeBron James, you think of a complete basketball player. He [Flagg] led the team in everything. That’s a LeBron James type of thing. When you talk about his passion, his tenacity, I’m watching KG (Kevin Garnett). He plays at a high level. We don’t give players like Cooper Flagg enough credit. I think it’s a skill to have a high motor like he has.”
Kendrick Perkins’ offbeat comparison quickly shifted the show’s draft focus, with fans criticizing the segment for straying into comedy over real analysis. Social media users quickly took to X and suggested that the seriousness around the draft wasn’t just there.
Many complained about Kendrick Perkins’ ball knowledge on a tactical level. Fans believe that Cooper is still very raw and has a lot to prove before all sorts of comparisons are drawn. Flagg doesn’t yet possess the passing or scoring abilities that LeBron James has on the big stage.
When it comes to defense, the former Duke Blue Devils also lack the dominance of Kevin Garnett. Still, many agree that while Cooper Flagg shows flashes of greatness, developing into a LeBron or KG-like player will take time, maturity, and consistent growth.
