Tee Higgins Injury Update – How Long Will Bengals Wide Receiver Be Out?

Devavrat Kulkarni

Tee Higgins set to miss the Bengals' game against the Ravens on Thanksgiving Day!

It has been just that kind of year for the Cincinnati Bengals, once again, where the offseason promised so much but the games have delivered so little. Starting with the turf toe injury to Joe Burrow, the Bengals have gone on a downhill trajectory, with the defense being the major culprit.

Now, however, Cincinnati will be facing its divisional rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, in the third game of the NFL’s ‘Thanksgiving Day’ games without wide receiver Tee Higgins, one of its essential pieces on offense.

Tee Higgins Injury Update

Bengals’ WR2 Tee Higgins suffered a concussion during their Week 11 game against the New England Patriots and is currently under the league’s concussion protocol. The incident occurred with less than 5 minutes left in the game as Higgins tried to snag a one-handed catch but fell hard on his back, slamming the back of his head on the turf.

Patriots’ cornerback Carlton Davis III was draped all over Higgins, and as the two collided, the Bengals receiver had no chance to brace himself for the severe impact. Higgins was later escorted off the ground on a cart, with his head held between his hands.

When Will Higgins Return?

Currently, Higgins is under the NFL’s concussion protocol, and he will need to clear that before he can make his return sometime later in the season. One thing is for sure: the highest-paid WR2 in the league will miss the upcoming Thanksgiving Day game against the Ravens.

The league enforces a five-step recovery process as part of its concussion protocol in order to ensure player safety. Only once Higgins has cleared all five stages, he will be given the green signal to take the field.

Since the Bengals’ next game against the Ravens falls on a short week (Thursday, November 27), Higgins will have plenty of time to recover for Cincinnati’s Week 14 encounter against the Buffalo Bills, falling on Sunday, December 7.

Unfortunately, for Cincinnati, the team is currently 3-8 with playoff hopes all but over. However, the biggest positive for Bengals fans is that Burrow is expected to make his return, and so is Ja’Marr Chase, who missed last week’s game due to a one-game suspension for spitting on Steelers’ cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Having Higgins in the mix would have been a massive boost against a top team like Baltimore, especially at this critical juncture of the season, where a win over divisional opponents has the biggest impact.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
