Fritz carries an edge into the Turin meeting with ever-consistent Alex de Minaur
Sixth seed Taylor Fritz will take on seventh seed Alex de Minaur at the 2025 ATP Finals; earlier the Aussie recently lost to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. Now, Fritz delivered a strong campaign early on, winning Stuttgart and Eastbourne with confident wins over Alexander Zverev and Jenson Brooksby. He added a finals run in Tokyo, stopped by Alcaraz, and backed it with semifinal finishes in Miami, Toronto, and Wimbledon.
Quarterfinal runs in Delray Beach, Geneva, Washington, and the US Open further solidified Fritz’ season. But after Tokyo, American hit a slump, failing to advance beyond the second round of any tournament. Statistically, though, Fritz remained one of the sport’s most dangerous servers, producing 832 aces, winning 80% of first-serve points, collecting 26% of return points, and converting 41% of 431 break points.

De Minaur, on the other hand, put together the most complete campaign of his career. He claimed his 10th singles title in Washington with a gritty comeback over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and reached the Rotterdam final, falling to Alcaraz. The Aussie delivered consistency across the tour with semifinal runs in Monte Carlo, Beijing, and Vienna, plus quarterfinal appearances in Melbourne, Doha, Barcelona, Toronto, the US Open, Shanghai, and Paris. His blemishes were limited to a Roland Garros fourth-round exit and scattered early losses. He enters Turin with 282 aces, 74% first-serve points won, 32% return points won, and 43% of 579 break points converted.

Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur are tied at 5-5 in their head-to-head. It all began at the 2018 Next Gen ATP Finals, where the Aussie claimed their first meeting. He backed that up with straight-set wins in Atlanta and Basel in 2019, taking early control of the matchup. Fritz flipped the rivalry in 2021, beating de Minaur at the US Open, then backing it up with wins in Indian Wells and Eastbourne in 2022.
De Minaur briefly reclaimed the edge with victories in the 2023 Canada Masters and the 2024 United Cup, nudging ahead once more. But Fritz struck back immediately. He leveled the head-to-head with a clutch win at the 2024 ATP Finals and Davis Cup too later that season.

Alex De Minaur will bring his trademark relentlessness, but this matchup leans toward Taylor Fritz if he asserts his first-strike tennis early. The American’s indoor confidence, bigger weapons, and history of rising in matches give him the narrative momentum.
