As mentioned previously, the quarterbacks are the most likely players to win the Super Bowl MVP more often than not. Signal callers have now won the last three Super Bowl MVPs in a row, and Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is now the favorite to make it four in a row.
This is year two of Darnold’s resurgence as a starting quarterback in the NFL. Written off by most teams and fans alike in the initial stage of his career, Darnold has turned his career around in quick fashion.
The Seattle Seahawks’ starter under center has had a phenomenal season thus far. Darnold finished the regular season in fine form with 4,048 passing yards (5th in the league), 25 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions, along with a 67.7% completion percentage.
The 28-year-old has continued his rich form in the postseason, especially in the NFC Championship game. Throwing for 346 yards and 3 touchdowns with no turnovers, Darnold led the Seahawks past the divisional rivals, the Los Angeles Rams, for a spot in the Super Bowl.

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye comes in with the second-best odds to nab to the Super Bowl MVP. Maye’s second year in the NFL has seen a massive improvement. Working under first-year Patriots’ head coach Mike Vrabel has helped Maye raise his game to a higher level.
In contention for the regular season MVP award, the second-year signal caller finished the season with 4,394 passing yards (4th-best in the NFL), 31 touchdowns, and just 8 interceptions. However, he also led the league with an outstanding 72% completion rate and a passer rating of 113.5.
In the postseason, Maye’s performances have dipped over the last three games. That, however, could be a combination of facing top-level defenses along with the harsh climatic conditions in all games.
Seahawks’ WR1 Jaxon Smith-Njigba has the third-best odds to win the Super Bowl MVP. Smith-Njigba has had a phenomenal year in which he built excellent chemistry with quarterback Sam Darnold.
The third-year receiver took on a substantial role this season with the departures of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Smith-Njigba finished the regular season with 119 receptions, leading the league in receiving yards (1,793), and hauled in 10 touchdowns. He has continued his great form in the postseason with 2 receiving touchdowns, 13 receptions, and 172 yards from just 2 games.

Running back Kenneth Walker III has the next best odds as Seattle’s primary rusher. Walker already has 178 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground from just 2 postseason games. He had a monstrous game in the divisional round, rushing for 116 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Seahawks’ thrashing of the San Francisco 49ers.
Seattle uses a balanced approach on offense, giving importance to both the ground game and the air game. Although it is more likely that Sam Darnold and his arm will control the offense, Walker could very well be in the mix.

Patriots’ running back Rhamondre Stevenson rounds up the top 5 in this list. He shared much of the backfield duties with TreVeyon Henderson throughout the regular season. However, he has easily become the go-to player for New England in the postseason.
Stevenson leads the playoffs with 194 rushing yards from 3 games and is averaging 17 carries per game. Having said that, Drake Maye could play a bigger role in the Super Bowl, given that the conditions would be much better for passing than what the Patriots have endured so far. And that could be the major reason as to why Stevenson’s odds to win the MVP are not so great.

After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
