Chiefs and Lions game ends in a massive brawl!
Sunday Night Football’s prime-time game in week 6 featured the 4-1 Detroit Lions visiting the 2-3 Kansas City Chiefs in a game that was more crucial for the home team. The Lions came into the game with a banged-up secondary, allowing the Chiefs to move the ball freely for most of the game.
The SNF matchup between the Chiefs and the Lions was contested fairly well, with just 4 penalties on Detroit, while Kansas City had none on the night. However, an incident after the game ended escalated into a massive fight.
As soon as the Kansas City Chiefs closed out the game with a knee by Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs’ quarterback extended his hand for a handshake to Brian Branch, who not only ignored it, but continued walking straight toward wideout Juju Smith-Schuster.
Words were being exchanged, and as soon as Branch got close enough, he open-handed slapped Schuster on the helmet, following which a massive brawl broke out with both sidelines emptying onto the field. While all this started in front of the officials, there seemed to be no immediate actions to calm things down.
Needless to say, this end-of-the-game incident will undergo severe scrutiny by the league, and we can expect to see some fines being rolled out. While there is no detailed information at the moment on what actually caused the incident, KC will take heart in a well-deserved win over a tough opponent.
Speaking with the media on the Branch Branch fight incident with Schuster, Lions’ Head Coach, Dan Campbell, issued an apology directed towards Any Reid and the Chiefs. While maintaining that he loves Branch, he also acknowledged that such behavior is not acceptable and it is not the Lions’ way of doing things.
Prior to the fight at the end of the game, the Kansas City Chiefs controlled the matchup from the get-go. While there were some brilliant performances on the defensive side of the ball, KC’s offense was once again in full flow.
Patrick Mahomes had 257 passing yards and 3 touchdowns, while also running for 32 yards and a touchdown. Travis Kelce was back in the mix, leading the way with 6 receptions for 78 yards, while Isiah Pacheco had 12 carries for 51 yards.
Detroit’s defense was unable to stop the Chiefs, and the injuries to the secondary were a telling factor. On offense, the Lions moved the ball well at times, but some crucial defensive stops by KC held them to just 17 points.

With week 6 in the books for teams, it is now onto week 7. The Chiefs will take on divisional rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders, while the Lions will take on the in-form Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are currently at the top of the NFC with a 5-1 record.
