Can the Wimbledon champs extend their dominant run against the uncanny Taipei-Latvia duo?
There will be a repeat of this year’s Wimbledon final, as Su-wei Hsieh and Jelena Ostapenko seek revenge against Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens in the 2025 WTA Finals group stage. This women’s doubles battle kicks off proceedings on the opening day, with both pairs looking to start strong. Although all four women took part in last year’s season-ending championships, they were not paired together. While Jelena Ostapenko has won two trophies this year, Su-wei Hsieh is searching for a maiden championship run. The WTA veteran has 35 titles to her name throughout her illustrious career. Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens have established themselves as one of the most potent combinations going around. Having paired up during the European clay court swing, they reached two consecutive finals before bowing out in the Roland Garros quarterfinals. The coming of age for the fierce 28 and 29-year-olds was a glorious triumph at Wimbledon. Having also reached the US Open semis, Kudermetova/Mertens arguably start this match as the favorites.

Kudermetova/Mertens lead the head-to-head against Hsieh/Ostapenko by 2-0. They faced one another at the 2025 Italian Open in Rome, as well as the summit clash of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.

Based on recent form, both pairs have gone through inconsistent patches. But on the hard courts of Riyadh, the flat game of Mertens and Kudermetova may come through. Although Ostapenko is arguably the most gruesome attacker among the four, her form of late means that Hsieh might have too much to handle. The first serves will play a crucial role, as keeping the points short will be imperative. We believe that the Russian-Belgian combination will prevail.
