Stephen Curry is entering his 17th NBA season, and he isn't slowing down anytime soon.
Golden State Warriors icon Stephen Curry is willing to follow in the footsteps of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and many other legends who continued their NBA career in the 40s. While Curry is already 37 years old, he is nowhere close to ending his career, and even his gameplay hasn’t slowed down either. Recently, the four-time NBA champion opened up about his plans and said that he is open to playing into his 40s.
“A lot of it is the foundational work that I’ve put in since I started,” Curry told Essentially Sports. “One, I still love it. I’m blessed with being with a team around me that has helped take the spirit that I’m trying to put into it and give me the framework that keeps the body limber and loose, and the injury prevention stuff. The rest of it is a toughness to get out there and do the work. I still love and want to keep it going.”
Over years there have been many players who have played into their 40s and even thrived in starting roles. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Dirk Nowitzki, and LeBron James are a few such players. While Curry hasn’t made any rigid plans, but with him, it seems that he is still ready to take on court for the next few years of his life. He averaged 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game, and hasn’t shown any signs of aging.
Even in the preseason finale against the Clippers, Curry played for a total of 29 minutes. When asked about how he feels physically heading into the regular season, Curry said that it is “more mental than anything.” “Just to kind of get ready for Tuesday… [I feel] as good as I can. Take advantage of the offseason; we had a really good camp overall,” the two-time MVP said.
Stephen Curry is eyeing a strong start to the 2025-26 season by building the momentum right in the beginning of the campaign. In the previous season, Curry and Co. kicked off their campaign with a 9-3 record but couldn’t keep up with their momentum. However, he has set his goals right for the new season and is eyeing on accomplishing them. The 11-time NBA All-Star spoke to the media after the Dubs ended their preseason campaign with a 106-103 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
“It’s the same mission every year. Last year, we accomplished it, but the wheels fell out a bit,” Curry told the media. “You don’t want to fast-forward too much or panic if it doesn’t go well.”
Notably, Curry is set to enter his 17th season in the league, and has been with the Warriors through every preseason. The last time he and the Warriors lifted the trophy was in 2021-22 against the Boston Celtics. Since then, they have missed out on the Western Conference Finals.
Even in the last season, they suffered a 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Semifinals. This year, the Dubs, under the mentorship of Steve Kerr, would want to turn the tide around and make it till the end of the season.
