The Golden State Warriors have waived guard Seth Curry, along with LJ Cryer, three days before they tip off their 2025-26 regular NBA season. With the move, the Warriors’ roster has now been trimmed to 17 players. However, it is expected that Curry’s departure from the Warriors is temporary. According to reports by Marc Stein, the franchise is expected to re-sign him next month when they are able to do so financially.

Seth Curry, the younger brother of Warriors’ icon Stephen Curry, started his 11-year career with the franchise’s G league team in Santa Cruz. After spending a season with them, he went on to explore as many as ten teams including the Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, Erie BayHawks, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, and more. He also spent a couple of seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, Portland Trail Blazers, Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, and more.
In the 2024-25 season, he posted an average of 6.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game across 68 appearances, including 14 appearances he made for the Charlotte Hornets. He was shooting 47.8% from the field and 45.6% from beyond the arc.
Seth Curry was signed by the Golden State Warriors this offseason to bolster their perimeter shooting and appease their franchise cornerstone as Seth Curry joined his older brother Stephen Curry. Curry brothers reunited for the first time in their NBA careers since 2013. However, soon after Jonathan Kuminga signed his new deal and the Dubs made the rest of their free agency additions.
This led to their roster overflowing and Curry getting waived is the result of that cap crunch. According to ESPN, “The move was necessary because of the Warriors’ lack of financial flexibility in the new salary cap environment. They are hard-capped at the second apron and just below it, so they can’t afford to have an extra veteran minimum contract on their books until early November.”
The younger Curry brother has established himself as one of the best three-point shooters off the bench. He has made 945 career 3s at 43.3% percentage, the seventh-highest in the league. As reports suggest that the 35-year-old is expected to return soon, we will see the kind of role he takes on the bench unit.
