Stephen Curry Injury Update: Warriors Superstar to Go Out for Extended Period with Grade 1 Left Hamstring Strain

Golden State Warriors walked out with a crucial win in Game 1 against the Timberwolves on Tuesday but suffered a big blow in the series. Stephen Curry had an MRI exam on Wednesday confirmed a mild strain of the his left hamstring. It means, the Warriors superstar will be sidelined from Thursday’s road matchup.

The veteran guard left previous matchup before half-time in game before the Warriors’ 99-88 win in Minneapolis. The 37-year-old clutched the back of his left leg and limped to the locker room. Before leaving the game, Curry scored 13 points, one rebound and one assist. Buddy Hield, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green combined scored 62 points to help Golden State beating Minnesota.

How Long Will He Be Sidelined? What’s the Current Status of Stephen Curry’s Injury?

Golden State Warriors are planning to keep Stephen Curry sidelined for at least one week due to the injury. It means, he might miss at last three games, including two home matchups. His MRI on Wednesday confirmed the severity of the hamstring injury. The Warriors have officially said that Stephen Curry will be re-evaluated in one week.

Curry also missed multiple games due to injuries during the 2016 and 2018 playoffs. Despite this, the Warriors made into the NBA finals. They lost to the Cavs in seven games for the 2016 championship, and they made a clean sweep over the Cavaliers in 2018 for a third title in four years.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that It’s the first strained muscle of Curry’s career, so exact return timetable is unclear due to first rehab like this.

Pressure will be on the Warriors after Curry’s absence from next three games. It could be a series-defining moment for the Timberwolves, who can eye a solid comeback in Game 2. Without Curry, Butler, Hield, and Podziemski will have a responsibility to take charge of the Warriors’ offense. Draymond Green’s experience will be key on the court.

Game 2 will be played in Minneapolis on Thursday, before the series moves to San Francisco for Game 3 on Saturday and Game 4 on Monday. Stephen Curry may return for Game 5 on May 14. If not, the two-time MVP can eye comeback for Game 6 on May 18.
