Despite playoff struggles, Crosby signs a two-year extension and remains focused on leading the Penguins to success.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby once again found himself at the center of trade rumors this week. On Tuesday (28), Crosby had to reaffirm his loyalty to the Penguins after speculation over the weekend suggested he could be on the move.

“I know how speculation works: Everybody wants to talk about different things, different scenarios, I can’t control that. I don’t know where it comes from. I don’t think it’s something I’m going to discuss every time someone speculates something. I’m not going to respond every time it happens.” : Crosby told DK Pittsburgh Sports’ Taylor Haase .

The rumors started after Mikko Rantanen was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday (24), sparking talk that the Colorado Avalanche might target Crosby to strengthen their depth at center.

“It’s more than just the losses, It’s everything that comes with it, the ripple effect. But understanding that, I know that all my energy and all my focus is on helping us and doing the best we can, and I can’t control any of that.” : Crosby said.

Despite the buzz, there’s no evidence to support these claims. The Penguins, currently sitting 15th in the Eastern Conference with a 20-24-8 record, have struggled this season. Their position in the standings likely fueled speculation that Crosby might want to finish his career with a playoff contender. However, the veteran star made it clear he remains committed to Pittsburgh.

Drafted first overall by the Penguins in 2005, Crosby has had an incredible career, racking up 1,649 points (607 goals, 1,042 assists) in 1,324 games. This season, he’s still performing at a high level, with 15 goals and 38 assists for 53 points in 52 games.

Crosby’s legacy with Pittsburgh is unmatched. He’s led the team to three Stanley Cup championships (2009, 2016, 2017), holds the franchise record for assists, and currently ranks ninth on the NHL’s all-time scoring list.
