Shams Charania Believes Bucks’ Chances of Competing For Championship Would Impact Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Decision Regarding Future

The Greek Freak is reportedly still yet to take a decision on his future with the Bucks.

NBA insider Shams Charania opened up on Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future in the team. Charania believes that there are a lot of factors and uncertainty from the Bucks’ championship aspirations. He suggested that the franchise’s decision to waive Damian Lillard has impacted Greek Freak’s trust in the team’s ability to win a championship. It has made it difficult for the 2021 champion to have confidence in winning another Larry O’Brien Trophy for the only team he has been with.

Charania said, “I think he’s still in his process of evaluating, asking himself some hard questions. The questions I’ve heard since the day of the Myles Turner trade and the Damian Lillard stretch and waive is, ‘Can I win another championship in Milwaukee? Can I win with this roster, not only next season but in 2026, 2027?’” He added, “In all likelihood, this roster is pretty much gonna be the roster both this upcoming year, the year after that, after the Lillard stretch and waive.”

Nothing Decided for Giannis Antetokounmpo Yet, Claims Shams Charania

Charania added that nothing is set, whether Antetokounmpo will stay with the Bucks or move on after spending 12 seasons with them. The ESPN insider said, “Sources tell me there’s still nothing set in stone about whether Giannis Antetokounmpo will stay in Milwaukee or whether he will be leaving. And so, he’s continuing to evaluate his future.” He added, “I reported it in mid-May that he’s evaluating whether his best fit is in Milwaukee or is it elsewhere. And that process is continuing. There’s been some very real conversations over the last week or so.”

Notably, Antetokounmpo led the Bucks to their first title in 50 years back in 2021. If the 30-year-old decides to leave the franchise, he will have some serious interest from other franchises. However, the latest reaction that the Bucks posted on his trade rumors suggests that either the rumors are untrue or the organization is unconcerned.
