Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Gets Hero-Like Welcome in Hometown, Street Named in His Honor

Gilgeous-Alexander received a welcome that truly a hero deserves as he reached his hometown!

Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilegous-Alexander received a rousing welcome as he visited his hometown after winning the 2025 NBA title. Notably, SGA has had a memorable campaign and he made a mark of himself in the league by not only creating several records, but also leading the charts to help the Thunder win their first Larry O’Brien Trophy. As he visited his home country Canada, and his hometown Hamilton, Gilgeous-Alexander received a welcome that truly a hero deserves.

The NBA MVP 2025 received the key to the city of Hamilton from Mayor Andrea Horwath at a public rally at Hamilton Stadium. Not only this, but Horwath also revealed that there will be a street renamed after SGA. It was indeed a special moment for Gilgeous-Alexander, who averaged 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game in the 2024-25 season. SGA was shooting 51.9% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc.

While addressing his home crowd, the 27-year-old said, “Growing up as I traveled across the world, to countless states, cities and countries people always asked where I was from.” He added, “Hamilton is different from every other city in Ontario. Hamiltonians carry a different sense of grit, determination, pride and energy than the rest of the province and honestly, I couldn’t shy away from that.”

SGA Launches Signature Shoes with Converse in Butter Yellow

SGA, who was also crowned the 2025 NBA Finals MVP, launched his first signature shoes with Converse. The limited edition SHAI 001 is a basketball low-top shoe in butter yellow, and will be out for sales on September 4. Fans can sign up on the official Converse website to receive an email alert when the sale is live. The shoe is priced at $130 on the official website of Converse. It is reviewed as a highly comfortable and durable pair, styled into a basketball shoe.

It has been designed with a puffed and molded upper to give comfort. The padded tongue has SGA’s signature logo, which is inspired by his number 2 jersey. With the SHAI 001, the Thunder star becomes the 10th athlete ever to have a Converse signature shoe. He has joined the likes of Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Chuck Taylor, and Elton Brand, who have had their Converse signature shoes.
