The NBA MVP has finally been announced, after months of anticipation, and it is none other than Shai Gilgeous Alexanders of the Oklahoma City Thunder, that has won the MVP award. SGA was the front-runner for the MVP award, meanwhile Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets finished 2nd in the MVP race, and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, finished 3rd. With SGA winning the MVP award, the Thunder have now had four different MVP winners in two decades, marking Sam Presti’s excellence as the Thunder’s general manager.

Coming back to SGA, he had a special season in 2024-2025 as he averaged 32.7 points per game, 6.4 assists, and 5.0 rebounds, on 51.9 percent shooting from the field, and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc. Apart from his offensive repertoire, he was also excellent on the defensive side of the court, averaging 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. SGA was all around dominant throughout the regular season, and in the postseason, he has continued his dominance as he has led the Thunder all the way to the Western Conference Finals, and have already taken a 1-0 lead against the Timberwolves in the third round.

After winning the MVP award, Gilgeous Alexander gave out a heartfelt speech dedicated to his wife, Hailey Summers, on the podium. “You were the first person to show me what love really meant, what sacrifice really meant, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of the journey called ‘life’ with you. So thank you for everything. I wouldn’t be the man I am, I wouldn’t be the player I am, I wouldn’t be the father I am without you.”

The Thunder have been dominant in the postseason so far, with SGA leading the way. They knocked off the 8th seeded Memphis Grizzlies in the first round, and then eliminated the Denver Nuggets after 7 games in the second round, and now are the favorites to make it to the NBA Finals with a 1-0 lead against the Minnesota Timberwolves. They were the best team in the regular season with 68 wins, and SGA has a chance to win the Larry O’Brien trophy this season, something that hasn’t been done ever since the Seattle Supersonics moved, to become the Oklahoma City Thunder.
