Serie A Title Race: Who Will lift The Scudetto In 2025?

Abhinav Goel

Led by Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez, the Nerazzurri are well-positioned to defend their crown.

The 2024-25 Serie A season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent years, with multiple teams battling for the coveted Scudetto. Defending champions Inter Milan currently lead the race, but Napoli and Atalanta remain within striking distance, while Juventus is quietly closing the gap. Even Lazio, though a long shot, still holds a mathematical chance of pulling off a historic victory.

Six points separate Inter, Napoli and Atalanta at the top of Serie A table. Inter undoubtedly boast the strongest squad in this tightly contested three-horse race, but their packed fixture schedule could prove to be a major challenge. With only a few matches left in the season, the absence of a clear runaway leader means every fixture is crucial for the teams in the title race. As we approach the final stretch of the season, let’s analyze the top contenders and their odds of winning the title.

Inter Milan remain the team to beat this season, sitting at the top of the table with 61 points from 28 games. Simone Inzaghi’s side has been remarkably consistent, combining defensive solidity with attacking firepower, as seen in their league-leading 63 goals scored. Led by Marcus Thuram, who has netted 13 goals, and the ever-reliable Lautaro Martínez, the Nerazzurri are well-positioned to defend their crown. Their recent 3-2 comeback victory over Monza highlighted their resilience, a trait that will be crucial in the title race.

Napoli have emerged as Inter’s closest challengers, currently sitting in second place with 60 points from 28 matches. Under Antonio Conte’s leadership, they have developed a well-balanced squad that is more than capable of challenging Inter Milan. Despite a minor dip in form, their title challenge remains alive, thanks to a solid defensive unit that has conceded only 23 goals – the second best record in the league after Juventus. Napoli will need to string together consistent victories in the coming weeks if they want to go toe-to-toe with the champions.

Atalanta have been one of the most exciting teams to watch this season, currently sitting third with 55 points. Their attack has been electric, scoring 59 goals so far, with Mateo Retegui leading the Serie A scoring charts with 21 goals. Gasperini’s side recently demolished Empoli 5-0, reaffirming their title credentials. Despite their attacking firepower, Atalanta’s inconsistency has prevented them from climbing higher. If they continue their goal-scoring form and manage a strong finish, they could pose a threat to the two teams ahead of them.

Juventus might not be playing the most entertaining football this season, but their defensive solidity has kept them in the title race. Sitting fourth with 52 points, they have conceded just 21 goals, the best defensive record in the league. Their current five-match winning streak has put them in contention, but they will need a statement victory against Atalanta in their next match to seriously stake a claim for the title. Juve’s odds at +1200 reflect their status as an outsider, but if they can grind out crucial wins and take advantage of any slip-ups from Inter or Napoli, they could pull off a late-season shock.

Lazio have had a solid campaign and currently sit in fifth place with 50 points. They remain a long shot for the title, with their odds at +10000, but their focus is more likely on securing a Champions League spot. Lazio’s biggest strength has been their disciplined approach, but a lack of goals has hurt their chances of staying in the title race. While their hopes of lifting the Scudetto are slim, they could play a key role in the title race by taking points off one of the contenders in the final stretch.

Can Inter hold on, or will Napoli, Atalanta, or even Juventus stage a late-season surge? The title race is still open, and every game from here on out will be crucial!
