The WTA Finals 2025 kicks off in Saudi Arabia.
Top seeds Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini will begin their campaign at the 2025 WTA Finals in Riyadh against Asia Muhammad and Demi Schuurs on Saturday. The reigning Olympic champions were knocked out in the group stage of this event last year, and will be keen on changing their fortunes. On the other hand, Muhammad/Schuurs will look to cap off an incredible year with another grand success. With the help of BetMGM, we look to break down everything related to the contest for you.
Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini are currently ranked No. 3 in the world at the moment. The duo has picked up four doubles trophies in 2025 – including Roland Garros. Although they faced a minor hiccup at the start of the season by losing in Round-2 of the Australian Open, the Italian swashbucklers rectified their errors and won the Qatar Open as well as the Italian Open. After losing in the final of Berlin and semifinal at Flushing Meadows, Errani/Paolini won their fourth title in Beijing.

Asia Muhammad and Demi Schuurs won merely four matches in their first five tournaments of the year. At Indian Wells, they beat the likes of Errani/Paolini and Siniakova/Townsend to capture the biggest title of their careers. Despite being among the outer favorites at most competitions, their inconsistencies have left them with a ranking of No. 19 and No. 22 in the world. Another resounding success at the HSBC Championships and multiple other semifinals have left the pair with a success rate of 56% in 2025.
Asia Muhammad and Demi Schuurs come back from 3-5 down in tie break to defeat top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 in Indian Wells.

Similar to what she did during the US Open Mixed Doubles Championship, Sara Errani will set her sights on proving the critics wrong. Having lost in the round robin last year, she will be desperate to win her maiden WTA Finals championship in 2025. While Schuurs and Muhammad are potent threats, they tend to get defensive during the big points. Paolini and Errani had their number at the US Open, and could implement a similar game plan to dissect their opposition.
Prediction: Errani/Paolini in straight sets.
Errani/Paolini (1/4) are the favorites to win the WTA Finals 2025 encounter against Muhammad/Schuurs (5/2). According to the implied probability on the money line, the Italian combination has a 69% chance of winning this opener. Here are the odds (as per BetMGM):
