Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori Defends US Open Mixed Doubles Title after Beating Iga Swiatek and Casper Rudd in Final

The same pair also won the Roland Garros title this year.

Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori defeats Iga Swiatek and Casper Rudd in straight sets to clinch the mixed doubles title at 2025 US Open. This year’s mixed doubles event made headlines with its exciting format and entry of some top seeded players like Djokovic, and Alcaraz. The final was played in the traditional six-game format and the unseeded pair outclassed the third-seed pair, Iga Swiatek and Casper Rudd 6-6. 5-7, 10-6 to win the trophy.

The Italian Pair Wins Back-to-Back Mixed Doubles Titles at US Open

Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori looked dominant in the opening set and built a 4-1 lead. Swiatek and Rudd came back to make it 4-3 but eventually, they dropped the set 6-3 in 31 minutes.

The second set was also moving towards the Italian pair but Iga led the charge and won three straight points on her serve to take a 6-5 lead. Match went into tiebreaker and Swiatek and Rudd clinched the second set.

As per the format, the third set was about scoring 10 points and both pairs looked in the last attempt to take trophy home. Errani and Vavassori started the final set in hurry and scored four straight points. Swiatek and Rudd tried to replicate the comeback story of the semifinals where they were down in the final set against Pegula and Draper. However, the resilience didn’t work.

The Polish ace served at 4-7 and she double-faulted for 4-8. It proved costly as Vavassori dropped a volley winner for 9-5 and a bunch of championship points. Swiatek and Ruud saved the first championship point after a rally. A biffed volley from Swiatek assured the final point for the Italian pair. The same pair also won the Roland Garros title this year.

Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori won the US Open mixed doubles title for the second straight year. It will remain special because it was played in the new format. It is just the fifth time a mixed doubles team has won back-to-back titles in US Open and only the second time in four decades.
