San Jose Sharks Secure Defenseman Noah Beck with New Contract

San Jose adds promising blue-liner Noah Beck, strengthening their defensive depth for the future.

The San Jose Sharks have added another piece to their blue line, signing defenseman Noah Beck to a one-year entry-level contract for the 2025-26 season. The move, which had been rumored by Mark Divver of the New England Hockey Journal, was officially confirmed by the team. Beck’s deal carries a cap hit of $975,000, including an NHL salary of $877,500, a $97,500 signing bonus, and an $85,000 minor league salary. For now, he will finish the current season with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda on an amateur tryout.

Beck took an unconventional path to his first NHL contract. After four years at Clarkson University, he transferred to Arizona State for his final collegiate season, a move that proved beneficial. At Arizona State, he recorded a career-high 33 points (5 goals, 28 assists), leading the team’s defense in scoring and earning a spot on the All-NCHC Second Team. Despite his impressive season, Arizona State narrowly missed out on a spot in the national tournament.

His journey through college hockey had its ups and downs. At Clarkson, Beck’s performance fluctuated—he struggled in his freshman and senior years, putting up just 11 total points across those two seasons. However, in his sophomore and junior years, he showed flashes of strong offensive potential, leading Clarkson’s defensemen with 22 and 23 points, respectively. He also earned ECAC All-Academic Team honors during those standout years. Over his entire NCAA career, he accumulated 89 points (20 goals, 69 assists) in 161 games while maintaining a +10 rating.

Originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Beck never secured a contract with the team. The Blues opted not to sign him before his exclusive rights expired on August 15, 2023, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent. Now, with a fresh start in San Jose, he’ll look to carve out a role in the organization.

However, breaking into the NHL won’t be easy. The Sharks boast one of the deepest pools of defensive prospects, with players like Luca Cagnoni, Sam Dickinson, and Leo Sahlin Wallenius ahead of him on the depth chart. As a result, Beck is expected to spend most of his time in the AHL, where he will need to prove himself as more than just a depth option.

Beck’s contract makes him a restricted free agent in 2026. With this signing, the Sharks now have 28 contracts secured for the upcoming season, further shaping their future roster.
