San Jose Sharks Place Henry Thrun on IR, Call Up Jimmy Schuldt from AHL

San Jose Sharks make a roster move as Henry Thrun hits injured reserve, recalling defenseman Jimmy Schuldt to fill the gap.

The San Jose Sharks found themselves in need of defensive reinforcements after losing one of their key blueliners to injury. On Sunday, the team announced that Henry Thrun has been placed on injured reserve, prompting them to recall defenseman Jimmy Schuldt from their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.

Thrun had recently stepped into a top-pairing role following the team’s trade of Cody Ceci to the Dallas Stars earlier in February. However, his momentum was halted during the Sharks’ February 27th game against the Montreal Canadiens when he exited in the third period due to an upper-body injury. He logged just over 12 minutes of ice time in that contest and finished with a -2 rating.

Statistically, the 23-year-old has remained consistent with his output from last season, registering one goal and nine assists in 51 games—mirroring his total assists from the previous year while seeing a slight drop in ice time. Although Thrun was unavailable for Saturday’s game, his injury isn’t expected to keep him sidelined for long. The Sharks likely placed him on IR retroactively, which means he could return as soon as Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche.

Schuldt’s call-up provides the team with additional defensive depth as they continue their road trip through the Atlantic Division. The 28-year-old blueliner has spent the past six seasons in the AHL, playing for several teams, including the Chicago Wolves, Henderson Silver Knights, and Rochester Americans. While it’s uncertain if he’ll see game action during the upcoming back-to-back against the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres, a return to the NHL would mark his first appearance since the 2018-19 season. Over his AHL career, Schuldt has tallied 34 goals and 125 points in 343 games while racking up 218 penalty minutes.
