San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl? 2 Wins on the Road Could Be Blessing in Disguise Despite Brock Purdy Injury!

Eric Divakaran

The San Francisco 49ers are 2-0 in 2025, winning both road games despite missing starting quarterback Brock Purdy, who’s sidelined 2-5 weeks with toe and shoulder injuries.

In Week 1, they outlasted the Seattle Seahawks 17-13 at Lumen Field, leaning on a stout defense and Christian McCaffrey’s rushing ability. Week 2 saw backup QB Mac Jones throw three touchdowns to secure a 26-21 win over the New Orleans Saints, with Nick Bosa’s and Bryce Huff’s late sacks sealing it. Injuries to key players like George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk persist, and somehow the 49ers are still winning games.

49ers’ Road Wins Signal Super Bowl Potential

A striking stat fuels optimism. In the last six times the 49ers started a season with two road wins, they reached the Super Bowl four times. This trend spans decades, from the 1981 and 1984 runs with Joe Montana to Steve Young’s 1994 title and the 2019 Super Bowl appearance under Kyle Shanahan.

With Levi’s Stadium hosting Super Bowl LX in February 2026, the 49ers’ early road success, despite Purdy’s absence, hints at a potential homecoming. Their ability to grind out wins with a backup QB and depleted roster mirrors past championship-caliber teams. If they can stay healthy, history suggests the 49ers could be back in the big game, playing on their home turf.

49ers are Trying to Get Back to the Super Bowl After a Horrible Year in 2024

Last season, Injuries crushed San Francisco’s hopes. The 2024 campaign ended at 6-11 after Purdy, Kittle, Aiyuk, McCaffrey, Dre Greenlaw, and Hufanga missed significant time and portion of the season. The 49ers lost a lot of games due to injury, with top-tier offensive and defensive absences derailing a potential Super Bowl run.

Now, with Purdy out and others banged up, their 2-0 start shows resilience. However, the 49ers do have an easier schedule than most, which may suggest that their record is not a guarantee just yet.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
