Sabres Focused on Securing Long-Term Deal for JJ Peterka

Anamika Shrivastava

Buffalo remains committed to extending JJ Peterka as the young forward continues to impress, ensuring his future with the franchise.

JJ Peterka was one of the more talked-about names leading up to Friday’s trade deadline, with reports suggesting the Rangers had shown interest in the young Sabres winger. However, despite Buffalo’s struggles this season, general manager Kevyn Adams made it clear that moving Peterka was never on the table. Instead, the Sabres focused on securing their future, extending Jordan Greenway and Jason Zucker while making a significant trade that sent Dylan Cozens to Ottawa in exchange for Joshua Norris.

Now, Buffalo is turning its attention to locking Peterka into a long-term deal. With the 23-year-old producing at an impressive pace, already surpassing last season’s numbers with 51 points in 60 games, he’s established himself as a key piece of the Sabres’ future.

Kevyn Adams made it clear that there was no plan to trade JJ Peterka. He sees Peterka as an important part of the team’s future and is focused on helping him grow. Once the season ends, the Sabres will begin contract talks with his agent to figure out the best path forward. Adams also emphasized that while they expect Peterka to keep improving, the team is committed to making the right moves to build a stronger roster around him.

Analysts project his next contract could be worth over $6.5 million per season on a six-year term, but given his steady rise, that figure may climb even higher.

Peterka has been a rare bright spot in an otherwise disappointing campaign for Buffalo. He has solidified his role as a top-six forward, thriving at even strength and proving to be one of the team’s best possession players. His shooting percentage suggests his production is sustainable, and if Buffalo’s power play improves, his numbers could skyrocket. With his combination of skill, consistency, and potential, Peterka is exactly the player the Sabres can’t afford to lose as they continue their push toward playoff relevance.

To my readers: Hockey is more than just a game—it’s the highs, the heartbreaks, and the moments that make us jump off our seats. So, keep cheering, keep debating, and never stop loving the madness of the sport!
